MJ was an all american for the orange this fall and this weekend he ran the mile for ole miss??? does anyone know why he would transfer it looked like Syracuse was going to be really great next fall, this comes as a huge shock to me.

This is entirely conjecture but I noticed that Craig Engels from NC state has transferred there as well as an Australian from a university down under. Is it possible that Van Hoy and his rigorous recruiting have found a way to recruit current university athletes? Not sure but with a boss like Brian O'Neal I wouldn't put ANYTHING past them...
It seems odd to me that Erb would leave Syracuse when the academics are good and they are about to finally be a national contender team the program at Syracuse has come so far it seems strange to me that he would just leave
maybe he doesn't like snow
Looks like there are some good things going on at Ole Miss. I'm not surprised that kids are seeing this and want to be a part of it. This is nothing against Syracuse or NC ST. They're both good programs but that doesn't mean it was a good fit for everyone.
Is it at all possible that Erb or Engels could've been coaxed out of their schools? Doesn't make much sense for either guy to leave (Erb is NY native, Engels NC) and Erb was running well on a national contender. Can someone help me make sense of this? Is it legal to recruit other runners at other universities?

No it's not legal to recruit runners from another team. With that being said, I'd assume that the Ol Miss coach knows this. My best guess would be that these two may have been recruited by him before he left for Ol Miss and they may have re-thought their initial college decisions for whatever reasons.
I'm Definitely Not saying this is the case (as i know none of the coaches or athletes in this case personally), but i know this isn't uncommon with college kids.
does this make 'Cuse vulnerable?
why did he leave? was he not on full scholarship? get caught with 'erb?
poor team chemistry?
Two of probably many reasons:
1) The weather differences.
2) The beautiful Ole Miss coeds !!!!
Well if he's competing now that means the coaches at Syracuse released him and weren't upset he left. If they were mad he left, they could have not released him and made him sit out a year. Culture if far more important than a 14:18 guy.
Addition by subtraction?
Who knows. Regardless, Cuse lost their top 2 from 2014 and still were top 5 last year. They'll be a top 5 team in 2015. I'll be shocked if Ole Miss is top 15.

Please realize I'm not bashing anyone here. I like Fox, Bell and Van Hoy.
I heard he was only on a very small scholarship at SU and wanted an increase but they didn't have it so he went elsewhere.
Understandable if true. The AA #1 runner on a team that is almost entirely distance deserves to get paid and if the team can't they should release him if asked.
Seems like Van Hoy needs to recruit kids that are already in shape and ready to race for him to be successful.
Has he ever developed any athlete over an entire collegiate running career?
Apparently Erb has been talking about transferring since he arrived in Syracuse
Not odd.
Better looking girls.
And everyone knows southern girls put out easier.
I know MJ. He just didn't mesh with the team that well. He actually wanted to transfer after last year but had to stay last semester.
Craig Engels may have been recruited by Van Hoy, but he was practically forced to leave NC State due to disciplinary reasons

This
Confirmed: MJ Erb leaves Syracuse because he doesn't like snow
Am I living in the twilight zone? The Boston Marathon weather was terrible!
Is there a rule against attaching a helium balloon to yourself while running a road race?
How rare is it to run a sub 5 minute mile AND bench press 225?
Move over Mark Coogan, Rojo and John Kellogg share their 3 favorite mile workouts
Matt Choi was drinking beer halfway through the Boston Marathon
Mark Coogan says that if you could only do 3 workouts as a 1500m runner you should do these
