Hope they had a backup lead vehicle or lead bike! Hate when some out of town ringer shows up.
That's got to be a record.
Obviously that was one of those light-stick parades, and someone who thought it was a real race showed up.
"Brian Kilcourse"
Not so much.
That result list is crazy. 23:10 for 2nd??
In my area even the most amateur little 5k races with under 100 entrants have a winner in the 17s and a half dozen in the 18-19 minute range. Things are getting worse than they were a decade ago, but I could not imagine 2nd place not breaking 23.
Browse r/running much?
I was wondering if someone cut the course, but it looks like that is one of the Hansons guys.
I suppose you do as well. Conversation is better here than there.

Why did he even run that race?
Anyway, I've seen tons of 5k races won in the 18-19:00 mark....typically a smaller race run the same weekend as a bigger race or some winter race no one wants to go to
Alan
14:06 on a fun run, solo? Why isn't he running indoor with that type of ability?
I showed up at a small hobbyjog 4 mile race trying to steal a win in about 25 minutes. There were about 60 runners in the race. After doing my warm up I see a young guy who looked very fast. After watching him do a couple strides I knew I was shooting for second. The course ended up being about 3.8 miles. The young guy ran 19:30s and I ran a little over 24 minutes.

Mo is an Iowa State grad and current Hansons runner.
I tried to run with Mo in a 10k once. We were chatting before the race and both missed the gun go off. We had to steer through the crowd of walkers and cart pushers to get running. Man, he smoked me.
Mo could have run 2x5K (guessing 31-ish) and still take 1st place in his 20-24 age group... :-)

Hard workout effort in race conditions?
Obviously he could have just jogged and won. Some people don't have that weak tendency in them.
Some people just like to rip.
You show up for an event, you give your all.
Sadly a rare quality in US running these days.
If you're running 14:00 you're not going to have anyone to run with in 99% of road races anyway. Whether you win by 1 minute or 6 doesn't matter.

In this local 8k race that I was in last summer, Dylan Wykes was doing a tempo run. After winning in 24:29, he circled around and did another complete loop of 8k course in 24:48.
