Would people just be selected or would we have a trials? Or would it just be USA XC with open runners like it is now?
I would like to see post NCAA cross country get bigger in this country, it's a great sport.

The XC Nationals used to be right after NCAA's. That was when they had a special race as a trials for World XC.
They cold just have an Olympic Trials race every four years.
Sorry to destroy all hopes of XC in the Winter Olympics but the rules show that XC can't be in the Winter Olympics. The sport must utilize some form of ice or snow to be considered to be in the Olympics.

Exactly, whats the point of this thread? Why wouldn't it be in the summer olympics? If it were (which it won't), it'd only be fair that theres trials I'd think, just because if it were just up to picking the top 7-10 10K runners in the U.S., really wouldn't give much chance to underdogs looking to grab those last spots over guys who are already elite.

There could be a snow patch next to the course. Or have patches of snow every 1K.
I would really like to see XC as an Olympic event of some sort. As people have said before, drop the 10K and focus on XC. I feel like it doesn't get much recognition after college and is almost an after thought in some cases. Having the opportunity to win a gold in XC would put the spotlight on it and give it more recognition.

After college? What does college have to do with international 10000 meters?

The Winter Olympics are the worst. A bunch of sports where 95% of the world's population are priced out or have no opportunity/exposure to the sport. Oh boy, let's watch to see who the best luger in the world is... out of the few thousand people who have had the opportunity to try and train at it.

the 1st place guy got an auto for the world team and than they had a second qualifier race in feb? to determine the rest of the team brings back memories

Better to have a USATF committee choose the team in a similar manner as the NCAA chooses the 4 teams for the CFB Championships.
Why not run the cross-country skiing loop? I could actually see the IOC going with this to make the winter olympics more inclusive, i.e. make some events Africans could win.

I think he's saying the Olympics don't have to care about what's best for American colleges. It is a worldwide organization.

Did someone say this? Wow- the Olympic Charter could be changed.
Wow- I can't believe I didn't think of that myself!!!

+1, the winter olympics is nothing but a competition of who has more snow and money

I agree. Making XC an Olympic sport would greatly elevate its public esteem.
So conversely if T&F was cut from the Olympics would it just die out? A scary thought but probably likely.
