For me it's, "I don't want to lift weights too often because I'll put on muscle which will slow me down" Unless you run the marathon or are already elite you could probably use any muscle mass you can maintain while running high mileage... Even in the marathon heavy squats are shown to help by improving economy.
The biggest cause of running injuries is weakness in the legs or muscular imbalances. A huge majority of these could be helped with smart weight training especially when you work one leg at a time ( to maintain muscular balance and equalize the strength of each leg). High mileage runners are not going to put on weight or mass in their legs. Stronger legs mean faster races. I agree with you and see this as one of the biggest problems in training.

You couldn't pay me enough to run the 5000
What brand of sneakers is that?
"I just started running and signed up for a marathon....."
"I don't have any speed right now"
"I'm accepting responsibility for my depression-driven actions and I'm now out of the escort business."
VERY disappointing...

"Go down to your local track and run 100m in 15 seconds. These guys are doing that 50 times in a row without stopping!"
"I jog a few times a week and I need really supportive shoes because I pronate"
I work part time at an athletics shoe place and people constantly drone on about pronation and it drives me f***ing bonkers.
I was in the best shape of my life before the season started.
I was right on pace but pulled a muscle 1/2 way.

Doing traing runs slower than 6:00 pace is useless.
Long slow distance makes long slow distance runners.
When someone says that they're still lactic from a workout that they did a few days ago; son I'm done being "lactic" about 2 minutes into my cooldown.

Looks like we have 2 hobby joggers on our thread.
"I just run mileage, because everything else is gimmick."
Especially from pro runners who have enough time to run a high mileage AND do everything else with plenty of recovery. That's just an excuse for laziness.
I used to hear stuff like this from my younger teammates. Disappointing in the sense that it showed a lack of maturity...
- I can't afford to take today off. [Sure you can...no one day is make or break. Be brave enough to recover / avoid injury.]
- My goal for the season is [INSERT UNREALISTIC GOAL HERE]. [If you're a 4:20 miler, qualifying for NCAA nationals is probably the wrong goal].
- I think that workout was worth a [WAY TOO FAST] effort. [Running a hard 12x400 workout is not the same as racing. Just focus on the effort].
