Last year was indicative that running well indoors does not necessarily correlate with better performances in the outdoor season. Yes, he ran faster in the 10K, but I felt that all of his 5K performances stagnated. He has run 12:58 and has yet to run sub-13 since then. His consistency is evident, but he has yet to show 5K times that are even comparable to Chris Solinsky, Ritzenhein, Lagat. Even Tegenkamp's PR rivals him.
Is the Saladbar crew doing anything that indicates an increase in performance as the year progresses? Or are we going to see relatively stable times the entire year?
Right now Rupp only has a 10K medal, and has yet to run any times that truly set him apart from the rest of the competition.
The only indoor meet that I've heard Rupp is running is at the end of the month with the stab at the 2 mile WR, so maybe he'll be focusing less on indoors this year.
Something to keep in mind is that there's a world of difference between running on an indoor track, with spot on pacing and perfect weather conditions, and outdoor track, where the pacing is usually not ideal for sub 13 and weather is almost never ideal. Rupp had a bad race at the meet where pacing was good to go far under 13. All of the other ones came down to kick in the low 13 range.
