Americans have come from all over the world and still do.
And they are still called Americans. My statement stands. Americans are Americans.

LRC Ray Cysts do not believe all Americans are Americas: only whites need apply.
Can anyone provide details to the Japanese training method/plan? Brett? I am legitimately interested in committing to a training plan that mirrors their general training structure. I have the very general understanding that they do high volume at a very slow pace, but coupled with long, intense workouts with a high emphasis placed on AT specific effort.
It's not even that we have more racial diversity, we just have more physiological diversity in America, I think that's the thing
Maybe, the Japanese population just so happens to have a small range in physiological diversity, that makes sense for them having a chunk of people under 28:30 10k and 2:10:30 HM, but there's not that many physiologically fit enough to get sub 13:10 5k and sub 27:30 10k as opposed to the US, where our data is more spread out

No gold, Japan! Denied! That guy was a Korean. I thought everyone knew that.

Which proves my point, because Americans have more diversity.
That's a good point. There are definitely target schools that attract the top talent.

No way.
I'm talking five guys, on the track. averaging a minute slower than Rupp did. Totally doable.
7 man 5K avg of 14:08 is about on par with a 7 man 3200 avg of 8:50.
That is difficult to understand. One, because it is so fast for HSers. Two, because those guys are completely disappearing after HS. Are they running 120 mile weeks?
I don't know too many specifics but I ran with one of the top teams in the country back in the late 80"s early 90's and every Sunday they did a 30K long run at 4:00 per K pace.
these runners are massively deep in organized systems. the heard culture breeds success but never at the highest levels. after college they do little on the world stage accept in the marathon compared with the USA.
our top college runners against theirs would win in a team competition, but on the top ten vs their top ten. if it went beyond top ten, they would win with the faster average..
osako is with the NOP for a reason. japanese choke abroad in championship meets because its a heard mentality and they are not comfortable away from japan. even in japan, they only get so far...
I call BS.
Japan has a high school with 7 boys averaging 13:39 for 3 miles? Now way!
There aren't even 7 high school kids in the entire USA that can run 13:39 for 3 miles.
Not possible. Come on.
Agreed.
These guys are not running that fast. If they are, I'll simply point to Ma's Army.
We all know what happened to them, right?
It's incredibly hard to get one guy to run that hard, but multiple? I hardly believe it. What you need to do is be careful and think about it... it simply doesn't make sense. Definitely not likely... Show me what these guys do in 2 years...

^This.
IMO, zero percent chance this is true.
Me thinks Japanese runners just don't have leg speed. All the high mileage training in the world won't change that. It's nice to run 14s for 5k but to run sub 13 you need good basic speed. As a general population - they lack that. Maybe there are some outliers but I haven't seen them.
And as they say you're either born with leg speed or you're not.
you could pick any 5 let's run posters to make a team that would beat any of these teams!

The average Japanese isn't any smarter than the average American. The only advantage they have in comparing test score is that they have a very small lower class to drag down the average.
You mean they have no Blacks to weigh down the overall averages.
No I mean they don't have as many poor people, of all colors, living in ghettos and going to underfunded schools

The Japanese have 7 boys on a team, not 5, and the U.S. is not going to have 7 guys running the 2 mile equivalent of 8:50 on one team.

The top team averaged 14:08 for 5k, not 3 miles, and aren't all those times from the track? If so, then they're accurate.
Unless supported by some corporation, the Japanese have to go to work after high school and college. They have to be really good to get corporate support, or else they're not going to continue.
