Didn't say Centro couldn't do it. I don't believe that you can be a racer and win without being able to run good times.
My point remains that Webb was better at BOTH the 800 and the 5000. So Centro has to either improve at BOTH the 800 and 5000 or develop a secret plan to make his 1500 that much better than his 800 and 5000.
Could it be that AlSal has decided that he can't run the 5000 and MUST bet on the 800, kind of like Coe? Not that Coe ever ran 13:20....
Slightly logical, but not fully logical, plus you have to think this all situational
Like for example, yes, Centro only ran 13:20, but he had just come off of injury and that was his rustbuster for the season... And w/ Webb's 3:46, that's equivalent to a 3:29 low, so yes, Webb was in shape to get or match the record, but it was about getting in the right race while he was still in that 3:46 form...
Also, Centro, training w/ Galen and Mo, does more strength work, so he doesn't run as much 800's, I mean you're talking about a guy who was a better 2 miler than miler in HS and was really good in XC collegiately... He only does 800 to keep his speed in check, but if he trained like a 800, mile runner, he would def be around 1:44 high, I can't see him 1:43, but it doesn't matter, because Centro I feel is slightly more aerobially fit that Webb so he would only need that 1:44 (his PR is 1:45), to get 3:29 low, and since Salazar said at the clinic he was going to do more speedwork next year, I think a 1 sec PR in the 800 is defendinly manageable...
Centro also mentioned moving up the 5k down the road, don't think he will do one next year, but I think by 2017, he can run around 13:05
