So the replies to Efraimson going out hard enough to bring her to the ground before the finish are more or less equally split between "She shouldn't have gone pro!" and "Maybe she should go out more conservatively!" I can't decide whether the cynicism is worse than the stating of the painfully obvious.
Not sure why but this is a major problem at the HS level for girls. There's either a medical thing or something is wrong mentally. But this is now happening in the NCAA level too. I don't get it?

I remember this happening to Shalane Flanagan and ( think) Julia Stamps when they were in high school. They got over it...I'm usually inclined to blame these things on not eating or drinking enough.

Hopefully this is not an eating issue, that would be much less impressive.
I heard today she went out with the leaders and at Stanford she took an early lead. She probably got too used to being able to run from the front and dominate in hs. I think she would benefit from starting off slower and working her way up.
That's obviously one take, but I'd say keep doing what she's doing, as long as it's not a nutrition issue. It's a shame more people can't go that deep; I certainly don't know how to. I think she'll eventually get to a point where her "central governor" allows her to to make it all the way before it does the catastrophic shutdown thing that happened today.
That being said, I remember Julia Stamps falling right in front of me at Footlocker around '96 or so and we know why that happened. Hopefully this is either not the same reason, or if so, appropriate action is taken pronto. She's going to be very fast and very hot for a long time if she stays healthy, so I'm crossing my fingers!
Personally, I'm impressed with Weston Strum.
Seen a fair amount of this. Not good. Not drama per se, some kids just overextend. But nutriton and psychophysiolgy can come into play, e.g., vasovagal response.

Considering that Alexa fell and is still in high school a 16:08 is pretty incredible. If she hadn't fell she probably would have ran under 16. Does anyone know what the SV course is like?
Shalane collapsed at regionals in HS and another time had to walk in college after going out too hard. She ended up ok. Champions sometimes push too hard.

I
The explanation I heard for Stamps' collapse was hyponatremia... drinking water all day. At least that was for one collapse if there was more than one... I don't recall now.
I know the SV course is very flat, but not sure about how many turns.
Course is way slower now that its not a criterium course...
Great fields though again!
A shame that the timing company couldn't have results and sooner

It is way more shameful that you can't read
German started, was he just not in the results or did he DNF?

he wasn't running as far as i could tell
German ran. They somehow missed him in the results. You can see him in the background of the finish video here:
She is an absolute stud, running stride for stride with 15:25 girls, I bet there will be at least 5 or 6 at high school national meet, wait, maybe at the NCAA meet... Shoot, your right, socialism for all.
Not only did Flanagan have troubles, Jenny Simpson collapsed her senior year at NCAAs. As far as Alexa, going out in 5-flat on a road 5K at this point is probably too rich for her (young) blood. She doesn't look underweight, if that is what people are getting at.
Huge contrast to NXN when she hung back then kicked like a demon. That should always be her M.O. in a competitive 5K.
Here are links to videos of the two heats at the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot.
There is an interview with Garret Heath as well.
The initial results were rather screwed up. As soon as they are right, I'll post a link for them here:
