Can anyone else crack their lower back by squeezing their glutes?

I can do it and recently I started doing it more often (as in on a regular basis). I also recently started having problems with piriformis syndrome. Not sure if those two things are related or not but just be careful.

I started being able to do it after giving birth to my daughter. I had a hard pregnancy, i had something weird going on with my sacrum and my sciatic nerve was pinched the entire 9 months. Im not sure if that is related to the cracking, but it feels great. Its never painful for me to crack it. I am worried that it could have consequences.

I've actually been doing this for years

I can only do this while sitting in a chair, and often only after sitting for long periods of time. I sit at the edge of the seat (so that it feels like my butt is hanging off the edge). Keeping my feet on the ground, I shift all my upper body weight onto the edge of my seat/sacrum area. I’m basically arching my low back while holding myself up with my hands or arms planted on the arm rests. If I have my Skype/Zoom camera on while doing this, it appears to my colleagues that I’m slouching in my seat. The most satisfying cracks I’ve ever experienced.

sooo i started being able to do this around 3 years ago. i don't remember anything particularly traumatic happening beforehand, but i was a ballet dancer. i was able to do it pretty infrequent at first but then it gradually got to the point where i did it a lot bc it provided some relief to tightness i had there. like, i was cracking it every chance i could and it was a LOUD pop. then in october 2019 i woke up one day and suddenly could not move. for like 4 months. my back went into full spasm every time i tried to move. only months later when it started to get better i realized that the pain was coming from my very low back and SI joint area. no doctor can really figure out what's up to this day but they're thinking SI joint dysfunction or piriformis syndrome. obviously i can't say for sure if the cracking and my issues are related, but it seems very weird that within months of cracking my sacrum/tailbone/whatever it is super often, that i had a career-ending injury that i'm still dealing with. when it was really bad i couldn't crack anything in my back anymore since it was all locked up, but as i've been recovering i've noticed i can now pop my tailbone again lmao, which worries me. a lot of the time it cracks on its own now too. sorry for the long post but just a warning to all of you!! i saw someone above mentioned suffering piriformis issues afterwards so i thought i would add to that.

I have sciatic pinched nerve for years. Started cracking yesterday after I did tons of glutes bridges on the same day.

I can pop or crack many of my body parts. Some are weird like sacrum. Another one is both sides of my butt. When I bend 90 degree and lift one leg up like rdl. Both sides could crack

My body cracks when I do pull-ups. The hanging is suppose to be good for the lower back. Running puts a lot of pressure on that lower back so I highly suggest incorporating it.

Yeah I can do it too! People get so jealous. I haven't always been able to do it. Funny how our bodies change over time. I've never had back issues and still don't. No one else I've asked can do it.

Hi. I had scoliosis and 2 spinal fusions to correct it.
I have lots of lower back pain and degeneration. My ‘tailbone’ area cracks all the time, especially when I stand or sit for long periods of time. Whenever I lay down, POP. Sometimes I’ll lean a little to one side and it’ll pop again. It never ‘hurts’ but sometimes I’ll notice a very dull, almost non-detective uncomfortability. My spine doctor says as long as it isn’t hurting, there’s nothing to worry about at the time.
I’m afraid it will cause pain in the future because I’m only 25. But I can’t prevent the pop, it NEEDS to happen. It happens on its own. Sometimes I’ll sit in the chair and lift my torso up by pressing into the armrest and that makes the pop happen, too.
I’m seeing the doctor again next month so I plan to ask him about it again.

Yes, I can do this, not all the time but feels extremely satisfying when I do!

The pressing on the armchair and lifting the torso is how I discovered it as well! I also have sciatica pain that sometimes feels relief after I crack my tailbone.

same!! I can't believe this forum is still active 7 years later. strangely enough, I can only crack my left side SI joint.

I started being able to crack it a few years ago and don't know if I strengthened that muscle group because of how frequently I pop it, but I've been in a lot of pain recently when walking / standing and the only relief is cracking of laying down and stretching. very painful ;(

I'm going to see a chiro and physio now that I know how to explain whats happening and where -- hopefully its not early arthitis!

Squeeze my glutes and I'll crack ya with a 3" Manolo stiletto.
