Shortened by a few seconds. If you look at the last 15 years or so you'll see a pretty steady progression of times.

If the new wave is so good... what have they done in college?
I thought Ostberg was going to be the one to dethrone Fisher?I think Fisher's ranked like 10th now. Ha ha ha ha

Tanner Anderson is a monumental talent. Seen some of his workouts, very modest, crazy ability. I'll take a lot of flak for this, but if he goes for it, Fisher is in trouble. Feel free to refresh this thread when Tanner claims Footlocker.

Course was shortened, Lukezic is still the kind of WA HS distance running.
3:33 1500m, none of these kids will ever touch that. The Armstrong kid, what happened to him? Did Metcalfe get to him or something???
He is at Oklahoma State.
http://www.okstate.com/sports/m-xc/mtt/anthoney_armstrong_919904.htmlHe is currently in a boot though.
The WA XC course did change slightly (I talked to the officials) last year.

Anderson said he is only running NXN, not Footlocker.

I believe FL West is the same day as NXN, so it is never possible to do both.
I thought Tanner won this same state meet last year, 2013, in 14:44? Was last year same or different course?
What is historic about Tanner's run today is that someone has finally bested Matt Davis's 14:09 3-mile on that course from 1993.

Sorry I didn't mean to start rumors about short courses. To clarify, the course used to be longer than 5k and was adjusted a few years ago to be more accurate. The first 2.8ish miles is identical to before, they just shortened a turn near the finish.
I don't know the exact year of the change, but Kiter, Lukezic, and Fayant were all on the old course. Armstrong was on the new course, and Tanner's 14:44 last year was the same course as this year.
Hope that makes it all crystal clear.
For sure, Tanner's race today is the best ever run at Sun Willows.
Just for history's sake, here's the link to the 1993 results. Mead went 1-2-3 with Matt Davis's 14:09 for the win.
Pretty sure the course was 3.0 miles, not 3.1 back in 1993.

Yes, 3 miles is what I wrote.

The course was shortened only after it was lengthened. It's still the same distance (give or take a couple meters due to NFHS vs. USATF course measurement methods) from 1997 till 2004 or 2005, and then again since 2008. The course was long in 2007, 2006 and maybe 2005 (I don't remember) when they didn't measure it properly after making some slight changes (it was something like 5170m those years IIRC).
Only major differences to the course from the 1997-2004 and 2008-2012 and 2013-2014 years was the some turns have been smooth out and made more gradual (which, yes, makes the course run a little faster - by a few seconds, not by enough to make it a completely different course)
my vision's all blurry... seeing white blanks on the screen... going to lay down for awhile... not sure why this is happening..
Borderclash Anderson vs. Maton... should be interesting.

Except that NC guys (among others) don't tend to run hard at BorderClash (that would be 3 hard weeks in a row for Anderson, and 4 for their pack including regionals, with only one week of rest before NXN).
If both Maton and Dressel don't run NXN-NW, though, those two could duke it out and give an idea of how Anderson vs. Maton might look in a real race. (or Maton could just run with his team at NXN-NW and NXN Nationals and we wouldn't have to play the "what if" game, and if Fisher runs both then we could have a good idea of who really should be the national champion...)

Whoops!
Your theory must only apply to Dressel, but not Anderson.
The same Matthew Davis who lost to Adam Goucher at Kinney Nationals in 93.
And the same guy who ran 14:53 at Woodward park in CA
http://www.prepcaltrack.com/all-time-california-cross-country-lists/
By the way a 14:53 at Woodward park 14:33 at Mt. Sac.
Which means Anderson's time is approximately equal to a 14:24 at Mt Sac. Still one second slower than Tamagno.
Should be a close battle between Fisher, Tamagno, Anderson, and Armstrong from Idaho.
What theory is that - that Dressel (and therefore Anderson) won't be the best runner in the nation if he's beaten?
I agree, when healthy, Mantz deserves to be ranked ahead of Anderson. If he is still dealing with his injury (which clearly didn't effect him at Bob Firman), then that point isn't very applicable is it?
Thank you for allowing me to make that point more clear for you (and others who might not consider that).

Thanks for the clarification. I only heard about the shortening, never knew it had been lengthened. Although I swear the current course cut a big chunk off one of the turns from when I ran it back in the old 5k days, but maybe that's just wishful thinking that my time was more competitive with today.
