I am up here in Kunming China at the altitude of 1891 meters, (about 6200 feet, right?) Lots of Japanese runners are here training as well.
Interesting place, this city. Very friendly people, good weather and I am doing about 30km per day.
I am doing a 16km tempo run today, first hard workout at altitude. Next week, I am going up to Zhongdian, near the border with Tibet to do some work at 10,000+ feet.
I am finding no Anti-American, Anti-western sentiment whatsoever. As I was running on my first day, a convoy of soldiers went past and they all smiled and waved.
In case you were wondering, no I have no gotten laid yet. My Thai GF is coming for a visit on 8/14. Kunming is about 2 hours north of Bangkok by jetplane, about US$200 roundtrip. Hotel is very nice, right next to the main stadium, and I got them down to US$12.50 per night.
