I wonder when they got divorced. Maybe it was a quiet thing like the Coogans.

It's great to see BK back running. Honestly I hope this serves as a building block to get him back to form. I know he's 44, but look at Lagat. It would be awesome to see BK get back to the track or on the roads. The guy was and still is a true professional and a fierce competitor.

Why transfer your dream onto another> Let Kennedy run with the level of commitment that pleases him.
You need to lose the mind set that know what is best for someone else.
Everyone I know who hasn't run a Marathon in their prime will later regret it.
Bob wants to be a Marathoner.
At this age, this will be his sub 13.
Good luck.
Great article.
After 35+ yrs of running - 15 competitive and 20 so-so, I couldn't agree more. Haven't raced since I died at Pittsburgh in 2000. Now entered in my first race since then, a Christmas 5K.

It's people like you that drove him away for ten years.
You can run for fun. It's not all about the ego (speed).
I started running in the mid 70's and there wasn't nearly the level of elitism as there seems to be today. Our Saturday group (10-20 men & women)included a 2:16 marathoner, a few sub 30 min 10K guys and others that couldn't break a 7 min mile. We would run a few miles TOGETHER and then start to break up into smaller groups.
We would meet at the end and go to breakfast. Everyone was treated as an equal.
I have a hard time understanding all the flack that people new to running, like middle aged housewives and their husbands, receive on letsrun. They're out there doing it. So what if they want all the lastest gadgets. And ultra runners, who are running for more than 8 hours non-stop, are attacked for being slow.
Bob Kennedy doesn't have anything to prove to anyone. He's already done it.
Better than the 128 pound version (stop projecting you scrawny fvck)

NY Times doesn't make mistakes. Maybe she didn't like the 200 pound version of Bob.
If he have recovered from gunshot wound to head he can run 3:17-19.

Exactly
Great thread. While my HS/college PRs were modest with the pinnacle being a 1:56 800, I often wonder why 10 years of inactivity post college made me so slow when I resumed training. I'm still 20 lbs over racing weight from my PR but have trained fairly hard to simply get my current 5k time below 19 and run a 3:30 marathon. Talent may not go away but priorities change and it's damn hard to get to the weight you were as a college kid! Good for him for doing it.
No Way and Toro, great posts!!!!!!, and I sincerely mean that.
I wish this site was more about posts like you two have written versus the daily garbage. Honestly, how refreshing as I only check in once every week or two because of the atmosphere.
Motivating stuff fellas!
I was not as good as you guys, but I ran 2:41 marathon at age 19, nothing special. Now, trying to break 3 hours at age 50. Having more fun "trying" than I did years ago. I could care less about those who know me and say I'm too old...I'm having fun trying:)

Sorry for the double post, total accident.
Have met a lot of elite runners through the years and Bob K. was by far the biggest a-hole I ever encountered. Too good/arrogant to talk or acknowledge fans at'95 USATF champs in Knoxville. Will never forget the arrogance of this guy. Glad this pos has put on 50 lbs.

It says more about you that you would make a judgement about him as a person based on one encounter nearly 20 years ago than it does about him.
Also it is quite strange to carry that much animosity for someone based on one encounter that happened 20 years ago.
Will bob ever share the secrets of Daniel komen and the McDonald camp
It might help clear up the epo mysteries

BK in those days was not a "people person". I noticed that too about him. I have heard similar stories like yours.
He was single minded with running and probably so focused with what it took for him to stay competitive with the very best in the world he didn't care about being friendly with fans because it didn't matter. He was the one American of his era that even could compete for a medal in those days.
He had to be cocky to even believe he could beat the best in the world.
He's actually a cool guy and if you knew him he was never comfortable like a Bill Rodgers talking to every fan that came up to him.

Man, get a life.
I can only imagine how empty and bitter your life is.
