The attitude that got Sandusky's proclivities swept under the rug is the same that got UNC in this mess. Money and winning is more important than integrity.
Duke fans will laugh at this, but how do you think their football team got so good overnight? Some Carolina fans will defend it, saying other schools do the same thing. Do they care what this does to the value of their degree? Or that athletes who couldn't read at the eighth grade level also have a bachelor's from Carolina?
Pointing out that this happens elsewhere is not defending it. I have a brother-in-law who works in the Athletic Advising area at Auburn and he has plenty of similar stories.
You are living under a rock if you think major D1 revenue sport athletes are not being ridiculously coddled on the academic front. Look at the NCAA basketball tournament. You have these athletes out of town for weeks on end. You think they are going to class or studying in between games? Come on. I am sure there are some who do, but you know where the priorities lie... They have Vegas betting on them, for pete's sake. The whole thing is an abomination.
I hope this is rooted out, prosecuted and ended... at UNC and everywhere else, including the NCAA. Put the crooked businessmen in jail. I know 100% that it won't happen, but I can dream.
