On the men's side at least, Wetmore gets the occasional great recruit, Saarel, Torres, Ritzenhein, Goucher--four pretty incredible recruits, in fact--but in general his guys are not close to the best recruits in the country on paper, judging by high school times. He knows who to recruit and how to develop them, while lacking the scholarships or school to outrecruit Stanford (the Rosas were among the best recruits in the country--to get nearly equal twins with incredible track and xc times was a huge coup, 2/5 of a potential national championship xc team, add McGorty and now Korolev--just adding the 3rd place ncaa xc finisher for a last year!) and Oregon (Cheserek is obviously one of the finest recruits to ever come out of an American hs, they essentially cost themselves another one in Verzbicas, by allowing him to get his stuff handed to him in competing before he was back in shape after a long triathlon season--when they should have known he had several times given up running or tri because of a poor performance, an incredible 13:18 transfer in Jenkins, etc.). Even OK St usually outrecruits Colorado.
