Right about where Hasay went down in high school. Her mother pulled her off the course. That day the heat got to Hasay but it wasn't warm at Stanford on Saturday.

Occasionally, I've come across JV or F/S races that are some strange distance like 2.5 miles, but never a 3K.

Gotta be a typo. In Washington state, HS courses are 3 miles/5k. Occasionally something weird like 2.8-2.9 miles, but never 3k.

High school girls races are typically 4k for local seasons. Typically 5k only for big events, but maybe it changes with the time/generation/culture (like, maybe more common now? haven't followed; and then maybe more common before my time). 6k is NCAA women's standard, with 5k/4k for pre-season exhibitions. 3k is a joke, never seen a 3k cross country race anywhere, except for the world xc short course (can't remember if that was 4k or 3k?), i.e. some sort of special/gimmick event. However, certainly a middle-distance race distance would be fascinating for cross country. XC is awesome, basically and there's a lot of room for creating exciting arrangements.

Didn't know Jordan Hasay had a similar parallel experience, interesting. Have some sympathy for Efraimson, being ambitious and precocious. That's a very emotional time and situation to be in. Hopefully she can make it work for her and live a satisfying life

Only Fritatta states like TX treat women like we are incapable of racing at the same distances as other boys in HS. Local races are a joke anyways.

Sorry, man. This ain't the 60s. As a previous poster already said, only 9 states run a shorter distance in XC than guys. The standard is 5k.

Watched the interview...did she seriously say she had never run a 6k before??????? She won the Bill Dellinger Invitational in 2013....Guess it "never happened" when the race gets you in hot water with the Washington State Association......

2.5 miles is not a "strange distance"-Oregon high school runners (1964-74), and I'm certain several other states competed at the 2.5 mile distance in the 1960s and 1970s. Oregon went to 5k in 1975.

I'm all for being positive, but anyone else find her post-race Flotrack video a bit disturbing? All that smiling. It's as if she read some online PR manual about spinning a negative story into a positive one.

I don't mean to make too much of it, but all that grinning just seemed weird.

Yeah for someone who just collapsed she was oddly enthusiastic. It's nice that she has a positive attitude but how can someone be that happy after losing a race in the last 800m and then stumbling to the finish?
