63:58 is about 4:30 to 5:00 behind the best in the world. He's got some work to do.

His PR is 60.57. I doubt he will ever run sub-60 but an Olympic spot is there for the taking.

Pretty sure Fagan was the dude I saw stumbling around at about 25 miles at the Chicago marathon a couple years back. Looked really bad - wouldn't have been surprised if he just went unconscious and hit the deck, he looked so bad. Made me really consider the health argument for anti-doping once I found out he was on EPO.

Completely solo. The field let him go within 100m of the start. He's only back training seriously for 5 months.

He never showed a good line of endurance from the half up to the marathon though. I was sure John Treacy's 2.09 NR was going to go after his 60:57. He never got close.

Hard to call it solo when he's got other people's blood pumping through his veins

Right lads apart from fagan who are the main contenders to go sub 2.15 before june 2016?

Paul Pollock, Cragg if he actually doesn't run it like he's racing a half, Kenneally, Sweeney, Ledwith ( heard he's made a comeback), Christie. Apart from that I'm not sure anyone else has a genuine chance? You would be hoping at least three can get under the standard. But it probably won't happen.

I keep hoping Thomas Frazer is going to get down there.

Fagan is better off being back home studying,training and working on his friends beef farm. Look at what being isolated in Flagstaff did to him. It just was not a healthy environment both for running and lifestyle reasons. Whether he took the EPO to cheat or not we will never actually know. And don't anyone bullshit me by saying he intentionally did cheat. Maybe he did/maybe he didn't. Whatever Martin does he will always be tainted and that's his own fault, he chose his own path. But I'm still glad he is back running. Hope I have not contradicted myself too much there and am starting to sound like Eamon Dunphy!

Yeah screw him for making a stupid decision while he was depressed. He had a legitimate disease and was going through a terrible point in his life when he took it. Cut him some slack.

That's a pretty outstanding post. Even though I am all for life bans but look it's not like Fagan has committed murder. Either way Fagan will always be tainted as you said.

And as mentioned outside chances for Hehir, Joe Sweeney, Mark Christie if he moves up, maybe a David Rooney or another younger guy who goes to the marathon early.

If you think the demons of depression make you more likely to take EPO, then you don't know much at all about the disease.
