I'm not disputing any of what you say, except, without my doing any research, who was the "sub-1 hr. half marathoner" he coached?

Terry Cotton on a point-to-point 1/2, the legendary (to old timers) Fontana 1/2.
Seems like I hear this often. A runner with odd personal issues bounces from coach to coach (or no coach, or god coach). Each time there is an article about what a great fit it will be. Of course the athlete's issues are not really about whether to run 8x600 or 6x800 on a given day, so the new coach typically makes little difference.
JTD also coached Lisa Martin ...silver in 1988 marathon.
treadmill is prob ok for a 20% grade workout. First of all, it's tough to find this kind of slope outside. Second, you generally don't want to run downhill at a 20% grade. The mechanics and pounding are very bad for you. That leaves walking down or having someone drive you (only practical if the reps are long which I doubt given the severe slope.) Treadmill can easily solve those issues, as long as you don't fall on it :)

Daniels coached Magdalena Lewy Boulet to the 2008 Olympic team. She ended with a 2:26 so Daniels knows a thing or 2 about coaching pros.
LOL.
Different league. Hall is a 2:06 guy. That is 3 minutes from the WR and still legitimately competitive for top 5 in the majors.
Magda is a great runner, but 2:26 is 11 minutes of the WR and at least 7 minutes from being truly competitive.
That is like bringing a up 2:11-2:!4 guy to prove a coach has experience coaching elites.

Says the guy using the handle "contributing nothing" to contribute nothing more useful than an imbecile's droll.
Are you arguing against my assertion than Ryan Hall and Magda Lewy are in different leagues as runners? Really?
Wow, what an insight! You better tell Jack this news... I bet he thinks you can take 1-2 min breaks during the race.Nimrod

Jack Daniels is a good HS coach. Don't get me wrong, many of his concepts have helped develop American HS students to become great middle distance and even 5000m runners.
But his track record (SCNR) for the Marathon are less than mediocre.
E.g. he does not believe in long tempo runs, likes to break them up into "rolling tempos" with 1-2min breaks. Guess what, you're not going to take 1-2min breaks during the Marathon RACE.
Just coming back from an injury. Figured out that running uphill (15%) on a treadmill doesn't hurt it.
Anyone know the specifics of hall's workout? Long repeats? Short repeats? LT or aerobic?
I'm betting Jack Daniels is going to help him come back to good form.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
