I saw the initial video of him dragging her and was surprised at the light suspension. (The lack of a felony conviction is orders of magnitude more appalling.) Seeing the punch was still shocking to me, and maybe others felt the same way. I'd never seen anyone of that size swing full out and connect with a much weaker person who didn't expect it. He absolutely creamed her unexpectedly. KO"s in boxing and other sports don't look like that.
The violence of that punch was astounding on its own, even more so after hearing the explanation from the NFL, his lawyer and her that the video showed she somehow provoked that kind of reaction. There was no element of self defense for Ray Rice as previously implied. Frankly, I think he could have killed her.
Maybe it'll mark a turning point for the NFL and the fans. If the NFL was smart (and they don't appear to be), the guy from the Panthers would be suspended indefinitely pending his appeal. They'd revisit the status of people you mentioned in that article and many others and ask themselves some hard questions. Ultimately though, it'll come down to money as mentioned above-Pittsburgh and their creepy QB are playing the Ravens this Thursday. Will you be watching? If we continue watching, the criminals not caught on tape will still be out there playing.
which video did you watch? i saw the grainy one where a woman charges across an elevator and gets hit. i can't tell what hit her -- if it was a fist or an open fist -- but saw her fall into the guard rail of the elevator and then apparently pass out? what are you talking about that there was "no element of self defense." this was entirely self defense and a question of magnitude. you might not have liked his response but it was no doubt clearly a case of self defense. you can't even tell if he struck her with an open hand or fist and she was knocked out by hitting her head on the hand rail.

He will be fine without the NFL, he has a degree from Rutgers University.
He can get a job related to his degree, he can be a teacher, he can broadcast if not NFL games at least college games, he cancoach high school or college football.
he still has a listed net worth of 14 million, so he probably does not even need to work any more if he does not want to.
14 million as a base and a degree if he chooses to work, he is in great shape for the future.

Everyone is thinking it but just too scared to say it! She was being violent and out of control too...she came at him too!!! What he did is crazy and deserves punishment. But whyyyyyy is it okay for a woman to hit a guy. It happens more than people think.
It's perhaps tolerable for men to hit women and women to hit men in a way that poses no danger of inflicting pain. Potentially lethal punches by men or women should be punished severely.
Now that we're being all Puritanical, what exactly warrants dismissal from the NFL?
DUI?
Attempted murder?
tax evasion?
This lynch mob mentality and public reaction burns me. These are two people with violent tendencies who got into a physical fight. Both are at fault and just because the bigger one, who happens to be male, landed the decisive punch doesn't mean he's any more to blame.
No evidence that there's a pattern here. The couple seems to want to put it behind them and are otherwise good people. I don't think he should have been suspended at all. There's a difference between fighting and abusing; this is the former.
If I get mad at my spouse about something and start hitting her, with no physical initiation from her, that's abuse. If we're arguing equally, then start shoving or spitting and it escalates into hitting, then we're fighting and both at fault.
Agree 100%. I had a girlfriend who would get violent all the time when we argued...mostly when she drank. I never punched her back but came very close at times. I actually slapped her back one time when she was being very aggressive. I always thought it was bullshit. What if I had lost it and punched her one night when she was attacking me not letting me leave the house? I would've been taken to prison and looked at like an abuser with no one caring what she did to me throughout the Years. Rice screwed up big...but attacking him as if he's this awful abuser is a little over the top. Maybe he has dealt with this for Years...his girlfriend becoming angry and violent thinking it is okay that she hit him..and this was a terrible one time mistake. Or maybe I'm wrong. But if I'm right...from personal experience...being abused yourself as the male really messes with you. I think it would be interesting if his wife comes out and days she has had a issue with becoming angry and violent towards him while drinking many times...and he lost it this once.. Would be very interesting if that was somewhat true. From a guy who dated a girl with borderline personality disorder...this can be very true...last comment is this..the Yeats of physical violence taken from my former girlfriend... I lost it once or twice..first..slapping her back..second..restraining her on the ground.. I was wrong.. That was never who I was...but being hit in the face...spit on..etc..leads someone to lose it. The best part is I ended up being the abuser BC of those two times I reacted wrongly fromher attacks. Never mind the hundred times she attacked me...I forever on became the abusing boyfriend. Just something to think about.
