You're right- there's a lot of contact in distance racing. I've been spiked, elbowed, etc. It's the sport.

on Twitter Rowbury appears to be trying to gather evidence so she can have Jenny DQ'd. The Salazar effect rubs off quickly on his athletes
please....... after what rowbury pulled on my girl molly. shame on her.
Here's a better video that shows it in a couple directions.

I don't think anybody deserves a DQ, but discussing the arms, I would argue that JS looks like shes furiously pumping to finish. Her arm pumps are wide - like many women she pulls across her torso - and there's contact, causing JS to start tripping. Compare this to Rowbury, who, on the next arm swing, shows an open palm/backhand at JS' elbow immediately after they've crossed the line. Who pumps arms with open palms?

I like how Shannon got up and simply walked away from Jenny and never said anything to her.
Seems no love lost between those 2.
I was surprised how they each ignored the other. No attempt at all to speak or commiserate. Wow.
Every once and awhile I forget how inane this website's posters tend to be, but then someone like you brings me back to my senses. Simpson's left arm impedes Rowbury's right arm. Rowbury is attempting to maintain her balance. Her hand opens in a perfectly normal way. Period. End of story. Again, two ladies fighting to the line. No one is at fault. GREAT RACE!!!!!!!!!!!! That's the story.

Me and Carl Lewis, that's who.http://track-and-field.narod.ru/CarlLewis/CarlLewis16.jpg

agreed
not even close to consider a DQ
like BOTH runners....to bad they aren't better friends....besides Shannon did the same thing not to long ago.
Simpson is the real deal as a 1500 meter runner. Obviously WC medals are something, but this was over a full season.

Exactly.
Molly took the high road (of course it's easier to do so when you win the race), and I hope Shannon does too.
I doubt very much that the officials will issue a DQ
Every once and awhile I forget that people on this message board don't actually want to have an intelligent conversation, but then someone like you brings me back to my senses.
Perhaps I should have been more specific: who runs with hands open and perpendicular to movement? And again, the open palm was after they crossed the line, so I'm not arguing that there was fault in the race, since it would be moot.
Anyone else notice that Shannon's right arm seemed to crumple when she went down? I wonder if there is some serious damage there.
Did robury's face hit the rail? Ouch!
I don't see how anyone can argue for a DQ in this case.
If you watch the side shot Simpson keeps a very straight line. Maybe a few stides from the finish there is a slight tiny step to the inside, but her right foot is very close to the edge of lane 1 the entire time.
There definitely is contact between their arms before the finish and then Simpson falls to the track. I understand the open palm comment that someone is talking about. It looks like Rowbury's hand is caught on Simpson's arm and maybe Rowbury was trying to push it off.
The arm contact, and the fact Simpson was digging for the finish and tightening up made her fall. If it's 20 yards from the finish I don't think she falls from that contact.
No DQ for anyone. Definitely not Simpson. She keeps a straight line and gets to the finish.
If contact is initiated from a runner trying to pass, I don't see how that's the leader's fault. The runner passing needs to go wider or in this case have more space on the inside. Unless you want to argue Simpson flails her arm out. Her arm goes slightly wider on one arm pump, but not enough for a DQ and I think the contact may already have been made at that point her arm flails out. Contact, she flails her arm out a little wider, their arms make more contact and then down on the track.
Great race for both of them.

Rowbury should learn how to lean for the line instead of finding excuses for why she didn't win this one.
Hey, Alberto! Tell her to lean Colin Jackson style. She would have won it.
Yes, I don't like the bad sportsmanship here. I don't care what happened. Go over and congratulate the other on a good race. I hope Salazar's athletes aren't copying his lack of class.
Great season by both Jenny and Shannon, but have some respect for each other.
Why is it that, whenever a runner ties up and falls at the finish, people think that there was some spectacular effort of intentionally diving across the line? Why would any runner intentionally dive? That would be slower, not faster, than running hard through the finish.

Why pick on Rowbury and NOP...Per your note above, they BOTH had bad sportsmanship yet you call out Shannon and Alberto?

Shannon got up first and simply walked away.
When they were first laying on the ground it appeared Jenny was looking at Shannon trying to figure out what happened. Shannon never looked in Jenny's direction.
