For one, not everyone is a steepler, you never know until you try. Even assuming Mo was a worthy steepler, you realize Mekhissi-Benabbad is one of the best in the world and has an excellent shot at gold. He has a full 6 seconds on Evan Jager and is the only non-Kenyan routinely on par with the top Kenyans. Mo has ZERO!!!!! chance against him.
Mo can run a fast 1500, but is unproven in a slow one in which Mekhissi DOMINATED today. Henrik Ingebrigsten ran 3:31 a few weeks ago and was destroyed. Mo in his current shape is probably not better than Ingebrigsten and certainly wouldn't dominate him like MB did.
