I have always liked this guy: great runner but troubled by injuries; nicer guy, not troubled by injuries...
Returns to his Wisconsin roots.
At least Chris won't have to worry about academics in recruiting.

I laughed out loud at this thread. No worries with academics on both sides. Rombough is not the sharpest tool in the box. But I guess congrats to him. He'll be thirty making 30k. Beats working at the running store for an hourly wage.

Put them on the map in maybe 5 years. They have 3 returning guys under 27, 1 under 26. Wisconsin will learn as Ohio did. If Cole is under the helm, the team will never be "on the map".

From Lake Breeze!? Please!
Just saying, uwrf was academic All American for xc and had like a 3.5 gpa. They have 3 returners under 27 but some of their guys like Ambrose and Borash have consistently pr'd from season to season. And wih rombough at the head of the distance crew, i think rf might suprise people this season. I bet they place 6th or better in WIAC. WIAC ain't as strong as last year. Haven't heard about they're freshman but from what I hear cole hasn't done ANY recruiting. If rf wants any success in their future they need to get a new head coach who will do some serious recruiting. They have most of the talent they need to become a national type team an with rombough i think theyll suprise people but they need someone to recruit freshies next year if they're going to make it.
It looks like those times are actually from the Rock Island course for Regionals where the Falcons took 15th and beat UW-Whitewater. They return their top 4 guys and Rombough could be the guy to take them to the next level.
who?
Rombough will do a fabulous job at UWRF.
What an idiot! Why on earth would a former Big Ten champion take a job at UW-River Falls? River Falls is like the second worst school in the DIII WIAC. He could have gone plenty of other places. River Falls is an absolute joke.
Yeh but every good team has to start somewhere. I say let the season play out cause if u talk trash about one school and they beat you you're gunna feel pretty dumb lol

River Falls is only going to beat Superior. End of discussion.
You do realize that the WIAC is one of the best conferences (if not the best) in Division 3, right? Yeah UWRF is in the lower contingence of the WIAC but if you were to put River Falls in any other conference across the nation, they would be a top team no doubt.

I realize that RF is a struggling program, has always been a struggling program and will always struggle in the future. River Falls SUCKS!

Lol. No, you must go/have gone to UWRF to believe that. Put them in NESCAC they wouldn't even crack top 4. Put them in NEWMAC and they MIGHT get top 3. Put them in the Little East for christssake and Keene State would probably beat them. And that's JUST the dinky New England region.
Let the kids run.
I run in the NESCAC, and as much as I HATE to admit it, WIAC is tougher than NESCAC or any other conference in d3 for XC- hands down. They had the highest number of nationally ranked teams last season and had 3 teams in the top 15 at nationals. Just saying, having 5 nationally ranked teams in your conference ain't bad. Lax, Eau Claire, Oshkosh, Stout, Plattville... nuff said.
This is pretty great news. As a WIAC alum, I like to see any team get an opportunity to improve, and as with most universities, a new head coach, especially one with Rombough's athletic credentials, is a great start.
As far as the WIAC being a great conference, it is, and for the foreseeable future, will continue to be one of, if not the best, conferences in Div 3.
That being said, the WIAC has traditionally had a 3 tier hierarchy.
Top Tier (teams that are consistently top 3 at conference and national caliber most years, in order)
1. Lax
2. Osh
3. SP
Mid Tier (teams that have swing years and will break into to the top tier teams on any given year, but don't have the historical success as the top, in no order)
4.EC
5.WW
6.PLATT
7.ST
Bottom Tier( occasionaly break into the top 4 or 5 at conference, can't remember off hand when, if ever, they've qualified for nationals, but have individuals every so often)
8. RF
9. SUP
That being said, I've run at (track or cross) every one of the schools, also stayed and had beers with most of the teams at the time I was around, and I always thought River Falls was kind of a hidden gem in terms of the area, the campus, and the community, especially with it's proximity to the twin cities. Hopefully, Chris can give them a well deserved heart shock and start building them up.
