"far fetched to call him one of the greats"
RW was a great comedian and a somewhat interesting actor. My view is that he was too smart to be naturally funny.. he was clever in his humor and it was usually well-crafted.. not for someone like me. With goofy comedy I feel he was too deliberate and not natural enough. Big loss and very unfortunate.
Was he one of the greats? Probably not... Cosby and others are now considered comedy gods but lets face it, the comedy was pretty bad. People seem to be way too attached to this notion that he was awesome. He was meh..
with all due respect, he should have used the Mork suspenders
the mork and mindy with rachel welch is worth watching
Where is the irony? I think you meant to write "coincidentally" - Geez, I hate it when idiots misuse the term "irony" and all its forms.
Two ex-wives, two alimony payments, having to work to make ends meet. Enough to depress anybody, but why didn't he do a pre-nup?? Not too smart on his part, RIP.
Worst part is having to continue doing really bad quality comedy to get those paychecks..
He did do pre-nups but still was forced to pay $50K/month for life to his first wife. Hopefully this situation will help shed some light on the insanity of making guys indentured slaves for life to women they divorce. The entire system of alimony needs to be revamped.

Wow, someone actually pays you to do krappy comedy??!!?!!?!!??
This must be your type of comedy:
StartOver (on stage): Mommy, I'm in the basement.
StartOver's Mommy (StartOver faking mommy's voice): I know you are.
StartOver: Can I come out for a little bit?
StartOver's Mommy: No
StartOver: Butt, whyy!!!!!
StartOver's Mommy: It's for your own good.
StartOver: Pleazzzzeee....
StartOver's Mommy: It is not safe outside of you basement lair.
StartOver: Waaaaa......
Audience: Hee hee?? WTF?!? What a loser. Grab the rotten fruit and let's pelt this arse-klown.
I'm in the minority here as his comedy never really resonated with me. Will admit he was a good actor though. Regarding the QOD, I clicked on it and watched some of the sketch. Just a bunch of shouting and f-bombs. Not exactly the high brow stuff some of you would have us believe. But I guess that's what stand-up has become.
No one knows what some people with depression really go through. Talk to any counselor, and they will tell you.
I have a friend who is a psychiatrist and she said if someone wants to kill themselves, they will. You might stop them for a day or that attempt. But, if they really want to do it, they will do it.
We are in a modern era where we can keep track of these things. I think that so many years where people took their own lives and no one knew about it and no record exists.

Who says he was the funniest? The mainstream polls? Not arguing his acting roles, some were legit but I think it's a little far fetched to call him one of the greats. The guy dies and suddenly his fan base triples.
No, what is actually happening is that hundreds of millions of people are paying their respects to one of the greats. They loved him before he died, they just didn't tell you.

I would put him in my all-time top 5:
1. Bill Cosby
2. Rodney Dangerfield
3. Robin Williams
4. Johnny Carson
5. Steven Wright
Those guys have all had me rolling in stitches. Most other comedians never could do that for me.
Honorable mention: Eddie Murphy

Sam Kinison was my favorite comedian, way better than Carson or Robin Williams.
Classic! Mel Brooks meets Woody Allen."What's that one for?""You can't afford it."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYBONINJt98
