Well, yes we do but not what I'm talking about. I remember reading about England's club system (at least back in the 60's/70's) where a world class runner was in the same club as a hobby jogger. There was coaching, etc.
So, I'm saying that type of system would help.
As an example:
There were 6 girls in my area recruited out of high school.
The top 3 went to major D1 schools on full rides.
the other 3 went DII or a lower D1- not a powerhouse by any stretch.
Of those 3 who went big time- one isn't running, one is running slower than in high school and one hasn't improved since she was in 9th grade.
The other 3 are better than those 3.
The "better" school's coaches didn't do such a good job of recruiting.
How is that good for our future?
As far as the girl who hasn't improved- a DIII coach told me that he wouldn't recruit her for HIS school, he couldn't understand why all these big schools were going after her.
He has runners better than her- at DIII.
