i had amos pegged for WR potential when he ran 46 for 400m with a 3:45 1500m at age 16, something like that. back in 2010 he ran 1k in 225.
as for ovett at 800m, he went for the mile instead of the 8.
looks like if he worked at it, he was a low 21 second 200m guy, even 21 flat. that with nearly world class cross country ability indicates WR in the 800.
without specializing ovett should have nailed a 142, you think peter elliot had more speed and endurance??

track's weird that way, coe never nailed a 1500 in his prime, and there is no doubt he should have run a time that put the record out of sight. and coe should have had a 140 too. but he did do well and performed not so far away from his true potential.
