but as a matter of fact, even though coffee's pH is below 7, relative to other drinks it is relatively high - higher than beer, soda, gatorade, tea, fruit juice, and even many brands of bottled water.

But I said "high pH" and 5.5 is high for a beverage. The bitter-tasting chemicals in coffee would be harder to detect in a lower-pH beverage. That's why I said I was only halfway guessing - and I was essentially right.
