Typical LRC idiot. You know someone could be 18 in 2013 and still be 18 at this point in 2014, right? Think man, think!

The problem is that so few U.S. kids have favorable genetics so the rest is irrelevant.
In the U.S. kids might race each other to the ice cream truck and within a hundred yards or so everyone is walking.
In Kenya someone could wave a trinket from a hilltop 20 miles away and two hours later 100 kids will be there.

David Epstein's book "The Sports Gene" hits on this. Those descended from equatorial Africa have a greater genetic diversity in their DNA. You can be fast if you are from European descent, but more likely to be fast if you are from African descent. Granted, it also means that most slowest person in the world is likely to come from the African gene pool.
If he was 24 or 25 would this make running 3:28 in your 6th 1500m ever and 2nd year of running that much less phenomenal?
Who cares about the age thing.

Where does the '2nd year of running' thing come from? I read that 2013 article and it says he turned to the only other thing he was good at once his family couldn't afford to pay his school fees anymore in 2009.
This implies he was running before 2009, which, again correct my maths if I'm wrong, is more than 2 years ago.
That article is also Feb 2013 and states he is 18 years old. Again feel free to correct any errors, but surely that means that he cannot be 18 right now.

assuming he turned 18 the day the article was written in Feb. 2013, no, it's not possible that he's still 18 in July 2014

You sound like quite an authority on Jim Ryun.
Interesting that four years ago Monaco was won in 3:29 (10-second PB) by an "unknown" Kenyan (age 21 though). That was his PB for four years until yesterday.
Maybe Kwemoi can PB again in four years.

In that time period the "unknown" Kenyan collected numerous international medals and even a world #1 ranking. He's now the 4th fastest performer ever. More than possible he actually was 21 at the time.
In the case of Kwemoi, he ran the most impressive race in that field given his lack of experience. He came from way behind to nearly catch Kiprop at the end and closed equally as fast as Kiplagat. Add in his World Junior Cross title and you have one of the greatest talents we've seen in year, regardless of age.
what is this, the stone age? why can't these guys have some type of record for at least the year they were born. Makes no sense.

I'm always interested in what the apologists think of these athletes. By saying you don't think Kenyans age cheat, you're basically saying that they're backwards, mud hut dwelling morons. Which do you think?
One poster here and I believe on T & F Media used to refer to them, or more accurately the West's perception of them, as "smiling, pastoral people." That they might be, point being, anyone who thinks that cheerful and charismatic folks don't dope is right up there in terms of analytical acumen with those who think that Africans wouldn't dope because they don't like needles. I swear I almost shit in my drawers the first time I heard that one.
As much as we believe Nick Willis ran a lifetime best of 3:29 today clean at 31 years old.

You're plainly not qualified to judge who "gets it" because you sure as shit don't. Football is by far the most popular sport in Kenya. You sound like some 17-year-old kid who's recently become aware that many distance records are held by Kenyans, and are using that as your sole basis for asserting that everyone in Kenya is born and bred to compete in distance running.
Goddamned silly simpletons around here. There is just no end to the stupidity train.

What does him being 31 have to do with anything?
Even if he isn't 18, isn't it undeniably true that he's still new to racing? At any age, to run 3:28 at this point in his career is insanely impressive.

Yes it is. Even if he never improves on it.

Wow. I only spent 2 years of Peace Corp in Africa with a few months in Kenya. I guess soccer (your use of football assures you are correct) is the national sport. Do kids play soccer, of course some do. Is it their national focus and their heroes, not remotely!
I don't care how old the guy is. The fact is he's fairly new and he's run 3:28 coming on like gangbusters at the end. Of course a new, young, black face is going to cause some resentment on here.

Throw out the 2nd year of running and the age thing.
Is it any less phenomenal that the guy ran 3:28?
