These race results leave me with a weird feeling. On the one hand (being an American) I am thrilled with Leo's and Centro's darned good PBs. On the other, it feels pretty weird being excited to see them placing 8th and 9th.

Lost in all this I didn't even realize Henrik Ingebrigsten set another NR with a 3:31.46. It's amazing how far he's come since his 3:36 national record in the Olympic final, still just 23.

Also Farah moves back to #8 on the all-time list.

Well if it makes you feel better, most championship races don't have pacers and the Americans do better in tactical races. So, the fact that both Manzano and Centrowitz did so well means they would have likely been right there in a tactical race. As evidenced by their past performances in said championship tactical affairs.

I feel the same about Leo and Centro’s performance today. It was a few weeks ago I watched Leo on the track becoming completely exhausted while belting out some tough intervals. The local runners will scream out encouragement to Leo to dig deep as everyone hurts near the end of an interval session. It’s those memories of watching him finish a workout in absolutely terrible hot / humid weather conditions that makes Monaco seem like the reward for all his dedication. That’s why I find it very difficult to accept any type of bashing on the Lets Run board. Yes. The only reason rabbits help at all is because of pacing. Wind resistance changes is almost negligible. See David Rudisha. Michael Johnson, Usain Bolt.

And yes that pacing is only worth one second, especially for Ryun who was more of an 800 runner. If he had gone out in 56 that race he would not have responded like you think.

Yeah but they ain't in that WR shape so going out in 54 is not smart. Kiplagat won bc he wasn't sitting on the pacers like kiprop. It was a risk Kiprop took and it backfired.

I think that kiplagat is officially better than kiprop.it was so cool how he kicked from so far back. Also osum how he took his shirt off and kissed his bib. Swag. And also a shout out to leoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo(nel)
