Why does DL pacing suck so much these days? run the damn pace you've been told to run.
Pacing problems have messed up rupp's chances in two DL meets so far. Me thinks he will have to break 5k record on american soil where we can get legit Pacers.

Rupp is free to run past the pacers if they are going too slow. He has been running for 10+ years. He and every elite should.d be able to carry a pace by themselves.
very good run by rupp.
1 second back of the win.
we'll see if he continues to get sharper but it will be hectic flying to america and back a couple of times.
that's bound to take the edge off.
the reality is the rupp is now 3-5 in the world in 5k
and 2-4 in the 10k for championships.
maybe he should run a couple of 1500's? then go get em again?
in any-case, no need for panic, he's 10 meters away from the win.

First thing first: The pacing job SUCKED!!! Okay, maybe if you're 3-4 seconds off, but how do you end up 11 seconds off your intended split time? This is what happens when you order a 13:11 5k guy to pace a race through 3k for people who are trying to run sub-12:50...
You are clearly very ignorant about pacing at DL races, and about how this race happened. Did you even see it?
The pace through 600 was right on, but NOBODY was going with it. The pacers backed off to let the field come back, as they should, and hit 1000 on pace for 12:58.
Where was Rupp at this point? 2:39. 13:15 pace.
He didn't go out ON THE PLANNED PACE with the pacemakers, and EVEN WHEN THEY SLOWED TO 13:00 PACE he was still nowhere near them.
As the Letsrun recap wisely said, anyone who wanted a fast time today has only himself to blame. The pacers were up for it and running alone while the guy talking about 12:52 didn't go with them. Instead he Ducked off and tried to pretend he could race a fast tactical 5000.
give the guy a break already. He's right there.

Listen up Obvious Road wiggins Sciatica Duck sceptic NOP Moody Hank, you aren't as obtuse as some of the others here, so you should be able to figure this out. The most immediate, main objective at this point in time is for Rupp to get that 5000m AR! If you would analyze the somewhat intelligent discussion that has gone on here the last couple of days, you should come to the conclusion that Rupp's best chances of doing that are to get on the heels of those pacers and stick to them like white-on-rice.
So what if such a strategy gets him 4th? That's all he is getting now trying to play sit-and-kick with the likes of a Soi that has quick, gear-shifting ability. Rupp needs to just put it in overdrive from the gun, equally pacing a 12:50 time-trial for the AR. In doing so, he may indeed end up dropping Soi or Alimeru (sp) that just aren't yet in 12:50 shape.
Nike may have to provide some extra incentive-pay to the pacers to get it right. It's likely that once the band of east-Africans see Rupp's pacemaker-following strategy, Soi (or one of his compatriots) will try to jump out in front of the pacemakers, then slow the pace down. Alberto then may have a valid DQ case for impeding if that happens.
BTW, this is the SAME strategy Rupp can use TO BEAT MO FARAH OVER A 5000m as well! Are you awake Alberto?!?!!

Pay the pacers to run 12:50 pace, two-abreast, and if anybody jumps out in front of them and slows down, run them over!
I dont think this is right. The whole point of having pacers is for the others to settle in a bitt back and key off of them until 3000. Alimerew went past the whole field early on, caught the pacers (who were slow) and then immediately proceeded to slow down the field. That created a gap and the pacing never picked up. Once they hit 3000 in 7:53, Rupp changed plans. He could have gone from further out but I am not sure it would have Made a big difference
al sal and rupp obviously think they have a trick up their sleeve.
they are expecting to be fastest over the final 400 or so meters.
and it ain't happening, just yet anyway.
we'll see if they adjust the strategy or not.
in any event rupp really is kind of wet behind the ears in championship 5k races, until recently he's just been hanging on really.
now he can compete and has to find his way.
