wow, that was something
That is called taking a race and opportunity by the throat and making you own way.
Just missing the AR.So what you get beat by one person, what an effort.
Jenny Simpson is very fit and was not going to wait around for a 2:58 number at the bell and hope
Jenny's official time is 3:57.22.
Mary Slaney's AR is 3:57.12.
She will get it soon.
did she win?
Rowbury broke 4, good for her.

Just missing drug cheat Mary Decker's American record 3:57.12
If an AR is an AR the record is considered drug-free. Sorry dudes, but them's duh rulez.

While setting an American Record in a set-up race may be great on a resume, it does absolutely nothing for the sport. It's like a quarterback playing without a defense against him, a baseball player getting every pitch down the middle or a soccer player scoring a goal without a goalie present.
Remember that setup race at Iffley Road back in 1954? Also so lacking in drama?

She wasn't in front at the end of it.

I didn't see the women's steeple, but another major step forward for Emma Coburn, with a 9:14, under two seconds from Simpson's AR, and a second place in the race, beating Assefa by 4 seconds. Maybe that quote gave Coburn some ammunition for this race. I'll bet Assefa knows who she is now.

The sport needs more drama with athletes winning in competitive events and more runners that take a race out to their best ability and less races with pacers dictating a formula for a race.
what the hell? that was a fun race to watch if you are a fan of Simpson
event thought rupp is a veteran, he's learning.
he's a sit and kick guy because he's not totally confident.
it is the safest way to get the best result.
but he's doing real real good.
now he's among he top 5k runners in the world.
if he keeps it up, the american record will fall.
good job.
regarding sit and kick with moe, he's not so chicken shit as they say. he'll pick his moment and strike, not hang around watching other people.
but the trick is, that when you're pretty much the best, you can dictate. it's pretty hard to move around in the pack and set yourself when your close to maxed out.
right?

Do you a link to this setup race? That way we can determine for ourselves if it was indeed a setup.
Jenny Simpson is so much fun to watch. She really has no fear and runs like a beast. Imagine if Rupp ran with half her effort and confidence?

He's 28, so he better hurry up with it.
Wow! What a gutsy race by Simpson who took it hard from the bell and ran away from Aregawi and Obiri. Too bad she just missed the record.
3:59 for Rowbury!
I'm obsessed. I'm obsessed. Drug cheat drug cheat drug cheat - I just like saying it. Then I take off my white silk robe.
