Just got off the phone with my training partner who ran the race and he said they divided the race start into two waves, one for "Elite" and one for "Emerging Elite." He's a 31-low 10k guy who was guaranteed entry into the USA Champs Race, but he said at the last minute they put all the runners without names on their bibs into a separate corral and didn't let them start with the likes of Hall, Braun, Abdi, etc. They started the "Elites" and then let the Emergents start about a minute later, totally screwing their chances of PR'ing on the coattails of an "Elite." Women's race, both Elite and Emergents started together.

Dick move
Those top 10 results are incorrect. One of the sub elites staggered in the second wave ran 29:15ish, and would have been top 10. However his gun time is 90+ seconds slower, and so is listed among the minor placings.
After the race, everyone was working dillegently to resolve the situation before the awards, but the RD who made the initial decision to stagger the field was nowhere to be found. Even the officials at the finish were questioning his decision.

What a dumb thing to do.
The results have to be incorrect. There were several elites that didn't start with the first wave. I know a guy who ran 30:16 chip time but isn't even in the results.

Wow hope whoever thought was a good idea gets fired.

I can vouch for this... all the "top seeded" guys usually go off with the elites, but they let like 25 or 30 guys go off a minute in front. Since 20 guys are in the money, a bunch of the guys in the "second wave" easily had the possibility to earn money. It's taking forever for official results to be posted... maybe that's why.
Also, I'm just throwing this out there because I feel letsrun is the place... Does anyone think it's kind of stupid that Meb decided to start in the back to see how many he could pass??? I know he's an unbelievable runner and a great guy, but he really needs to go blazing past a bunch of fatties? He could of at least had a shot at the national title and def would have gotten prize money.
Meb's run through the pack was a marketing effort for his sponsors, Skechers I'd imagine. A lot more bang for the buck than finishing up front and I'm sure they compensated him for any loss in prize money.
I believe Meb was running for charity and the deal was to run from the back of the field.
Any updates on McDougal?
I can't find him here:
14th in 29:35 according to his facebbok.

My gf has a friend that works for ATC... says won't have official results out until tonight. Her friend is a complete ditz, so who knows...
But, results were up last year for my slow ass by like 9:30am, so there must be an issue.
Meanwhile, might I recommend the following like right back to 1977's edition of Peachtree and a faded glimpse of Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers, Don Kardong, Lasse Viren, Benjie Durden, and other stars of running's baby boom. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2-5koYgBe7A
sounds like a shit show
totally love having a US only focus and hope it's done again but the staggered starts for elite/emerging elite is super BS-double-plus bad.
I ran the race and and just watched the DVRd coverage to see the elite race play out (coverage much better than past years, though still leaves a lot to be desired). I know last year, a group of sub seeded guys ran out fast for 100m just to get on TV. I wonder if this dumb @$$ move to hold back everyone else was to make sure the elite mens start looked "pretty" on TV this year? Absolutely inexcusable move though. The weather was the best I've run in here in years - low humidity, high 60s at the start I think? Would have been a great day for folks wanting to run fast to do so - insulting as heck to anyone with a race plan to get held back. Tracey Russell did a lot of destruction to track club in terms of "yea new runners" to the detriment of anyone who wasn't a new runner (I support fitness. but there are lots of members who are already fit and they got screwed). I hoped Rich would do a better job of focusing on the competitive part of running, and he's trying perhaps...but lots of goofs so far. First cancelled the marathon with no clear plans to bring it back, and now he screwed up the Peactree sub elite start. But Yea! Meb raised $ for charity! Thats what matters!! Kids and Charity!
Wow. Desi has been so bad/irrelevant since that miraculous Boston run and the Olympic Trials.

Yeah just send them a list of who you want to eliminate and who you want to keep in.
