There must be rules covering this type of thing. No?

Yes, there is. If you don't cross the starting mat, you are dq'd. I have seen it happen to runners at races before. The mats wouldn't even be activated till just before the start.

Hey, I got these from Marathon Maniacs...seems there are rules...and seems she claims to be a member...
If anyone would like to see rules here's where I found them:
http://www.marathonmaniacs.com/marathon-maniacs/criteria-faq
The rule listed last on this page applies 100% to RD’s. Looks like the RD at these iran marathons doesn't adhere to the rules -- as I'm reading the previous posts and what many local (and now I suspect all runners listed in the results) runners have apparently seen.
Her's the rule (scroll to the bottom to see)... maybe this RD didn't bother to check or maybe just doesn't care, (either way ignorance is no excuse)... Like someone else wrote...the same rules apply to all. And just because an RD can make "allowances" as another wrote, I wouldn't think "allowances" mean allowing rule violations for anyone, including yourself. To my way of thinking, the RD should be held to an even higher standard to avoid any appearance of irregularity.
"Race Directors and Volunteers: We applaud your efforts for putting on races for runners and volunteers for helping out. However, if you are to run YOUR marathon, you need to do it at the same time the participants are running it, not while you’re marking the course a week earlier or even making a “dry” run the day before. This also pertains to runners whom may want to make arrangements with the race director to run their race the day before only because they have another marathon scheduled the next day. Try to hand over the reins of being the director to a non-runner for a few hours so you too can enjoy running your event!"
I heard through the grapevine that Parvaneh Moayedi also cheated at Badwater last week. There has been lots of talk amongst those involved in the race. She was MIA on the back half of the course until the very end. Hmmmm.......
She totally cheated at Badwater. Everyone involved with the event knows it. I have friends who were right in the middle if this scandal She is embarrassing to our sport. Who cheats at Badwater ?!?!?????? She keeps getting bolder and bolder When is enough enough ?!?!?!
Dude, you've been outed already. Give it up.

You mean your friends cheated too or just helped her cheat?
Must be a pretty big conspiracy. she hit all the checkpoints and there were only like 83 runners on a lonely stretch of road where everyone sees everything.
"lots of talk" ... "grapevine" ... "everyone knows"
and yet this is the only place it's mentioned so far. You better get busy making up new names and posting on more message boards.

Yeah, because it's completely impossible with more than 30 miles between some checkpoints to get in a car and drive further up the course. Wake up and smell the stench of rotten beef.
I honestly have no idea what the truth is here but there does seem to be an awful lot of circumstantial evidence. Just looking at the splits from this year's Badwater, PM is one of only two runners to run faster on the second half of the course. The first finished 7th overall and was 18 mins faster on the back half. PM, on the other hand, supposedly ran over an hour faster on the second half. On a course as long and difficult as Badwater, I just don't buy it. I find it much easier to believe that she somehow cheated.
That's a lot of evidence you provided. Give it up. No one is buying it.

There's nothing inconsistent or suspicious about her splits. These are her paces (min/mile):
17, 16, 26, 33, 17, 24, 18, 20, 20
She had a couple sections in the middle where she stopped or had a really rough patch. But I don't find it suspicious that she did the first 45 miles in 17 minutes per mile and was able to speed in the last 44 miles in 19 minutes per mile.
Your irrational obsessive hatred of PM has become more fascinating than the original topic. But I'm afraid you'll have to look at something other than the Badwater results for your desired scandal.
those splits seem wacky when overlayed w course elevation profile http://www.badwater.com/route/2014/Badwater135_2014_profile.jpg
wow, her splits are a real come from behind story....compare her with the other runners. I guess if Badwater is cool w this....so be it.

Actually, they make perfect sense. The slowest split, 33 minutes per mile, was going up Cerro Gordo. The 24 was going up Darwin. The 26 was on the flat stretch before Cerro Gordo, so maybe she took a stop on that stretch. The 18, her fastest on the 2nd half, was coming down Darwin. Then she kicked it in at a blazing 20 minutes per mile up the final hill.
Thanks. The splits make more sense after looking at the elevation profile.
How can anyone truly interpret anyone's splits over 48 hrs in a race where you could conceivably take a nap, eat, sit? Not an event or pace with which I personally can relate. The difference between an 18 minute mile pace and 20 is perhaps statistically insignificant. The lady finished almost in last place. Unless anyone has any actual footage of improper support I would drop it.
elephino, I don't have an irrational or obsessive hatred of PM. I was led to this thread by a friend who shares my concern for the integrity of Badwater. I don't know PM from Adam. Your irrational defense of her, however, is befuddling. You have no proof to convince anyone of the legitimacy of her results. No one here has any proof to convince you of her cheating. I have no dog in this fight. Believe what you will.
From Darwin turnaround to the finish was the exact same course as last year. Maybe she found a short cut? Seriously, did you know that runners at Badwater stop and take naps? That could explain the variation in splits.
I was asked to comment on this discussion. I am putting everything out publicly. I am not about to hide behind one thing I am about to disclose. There is a bunch of theories about what happened at Badwater put out there by people who were not there. Well, I was.
First of all, I do not know PM. I don't care about her records or business. I have nothing to gain or lose in this discussion. I am not a pro athlete. I am hold a regular job and am a Dad. I like to run ultra's but this is my hobby, not my career. I don't lie. I don't cheat. I don't have sponsors. I am not out to get anyone.
I live in WI with my family. I am a 4x Badwater finisher. I ran Badwater last month/2014. I am going to throw out a few facts about Badwater 2014 because there have been a few folks bringing it up and I feel uniquely qualified to talk about FACTS because I was there. Badwater 1014. I was in front of PM for the ENTIRE race with the exception of the first hour that it took me to catch her between her 6 am start and my 7 am start.
Yes, I will bring up FACTS. Nothing more. Nothing less. First PM was behind me approximately 2 hour and 12 min hours at the turnaround at Darwin (91 mile mark). At this point, I was 1 hour ahead of PM based on my later starting time and 1:12 physically in front of her. Again, 2 hours and 12 min ahead of her (2:12). I finished the race from 91 to 135 without napping, sleeping, or other off course breaks. I was on the road the entire time. AT NO TIME DID PM EVER PASS ME from mile 91 to the finish, yet she somehow finished an hour in front of me!???!! I also have a crew of 3 other individuals from mile 91-122 and a 4 person crew from miles 122-135. Nobody on my crew saw one trace of her on the course after we passed her at the Darwin turnaround (we were heading home from Darwin, she was still climbing to Darwin). I was near the back of the pack this year due to being sick. She was behind me. We physically saw her behind us on the out and back. On a long straight desert road, you absolutely know 100% when someone approaches you....especially at Badwater where the runners talk and encourage each other as they pass each other. First you see the crew vehicle leep frog you (that is the first sign a runner is approaching you from behind....you see their vehicle first), then you see the runner, then the runners engage with each other as they pass, then you see the runner disappear in front of you. The process at this stage in the race typically takes approximately 30 min, depending the speed differential of the runners. I was moving well at that point. Between myself and my 3-4 crew members that were with me the ENTIRE time, we can all attest to the fact that PM 100% DID NOT PASS US AT ANY POINT IN THE RACE......especially in the back 44 miles of the course. These are FACTS. Something is definitely NOT RIGHT about this entire scene. I DO NOT care for people disrespecting any race.....be it Badwater or the local 10K race. Have a good day.
Love it. Looks like we do have another Kip Litton saga.
Also looking forward to the Jason E. Reichenberg defamation lawsuit promised by Steve Holehan way back in the thread:
