Disagree on this. Runner's World is popular. The success of this site is predicated on a speciality niche--those who find the Galloway-jogger-soccer mom feel of Runner's World et al incompatible with their view of what serious running is.
I'm mostly here for content as well, and I think this site does border something between a news site (i.e. journalism) and a popular blog run by a couple former collegiate/serious runners. It's this ambiguous space you seem to be uncomfortable with; sure it lacks in quality at times, but the content is consistent in ways that other sites aren't.
Also, I think there's some irony in complaining about trolling while simultaneously hurling trollish invective towards the site's creators.
