I really hope in all the "reform" in the NCAA a bunch of these transfer rules are eliminated. It's ridiculous that schools can treat their "student-athletes" this way. They are not slaves and should be able to transfer between institutions just the same way all other students are able to do so.
But they are completely free to transfer on the same terms at other students.
The restrictions have to do with eligibility to immediately compete for the new school. The restrictions are frequently waived by the original institution, as an athlete held on a team against their will is a negative on the team that most coaches would rather not have.
From what I've heard, many of the kids (both male and female) have asked for a release within the last few weeks. How many of them were granted? NONE. Everyone has to wait until she contacts them.
Ironic they all stay under the sinking ship that was JJ Clark and now they get what they finally wanted, new leadership, and they all want to transfer? WTF is wrong with all the Tennessee athletes and alums? You can't have it both ways.
sure, sure, sure... wrote:

Right, but the NCAA is arguing right now that their precious amateurism rules are so sacred because they are linked to the educational mission of the university and protects the "student-athlete." It is a cynical, BS argument. If sports is just an adjunct to the educational mission of the university then any student who transfers in good academic standing should be able to compete right away.
If a talented cellist transfers schools do they have to sit out for a year or can they play for the new school's orchestra right away?

Beth was a do-nothing coach in small college town Minnesota when she got the job with Vin at Stanford. He needed/wanted to hire a female, there weren't that many females out there, and Beth has always been fantastic at the political game, so Vin knew her from USATF stuff. She goes to Stanford, does what Vin wants her to do, and suddenly she is crowned as the "great" distance coach in the US. Really???? Did she make Stanford, or did Stanford make her? She rode Vin's coattails to the job at Penn State. Now, she has done an excellent job at Penn State, and she should be commended for that. But to say that she achieved getting to Division I on any other category than being a female is patently false.

It sounds like she networked and got a job. I believe unqualified men get jobs everyday because they know someone. And guess what...they get hired because they are buddies; aka MEN. But no one raises a "gender stink" when it goes in favor of the majority. In fact, those hires are so common place that no one even recognizes it as a gender issue.
So using your same train of thought...Every man uses his sex to get into DI. It is statistically proven that men hire men.
And as you pointed out, Vin made an excellent hire. Here we are years later and Beth has continued to produce after that opportunity.
Can anybody post how penn st has finished at the national meet both male and female please.
Okay so I looked it up myself. Men's side. Only ONE top 15 finish last year and this year 44th. Wow!!!
Dang, all of you all look dumb now! 3rd at NCAAs
And just a mere 7 years later.
Was that clause in the contract? '3rd place trophy by year 7'
The pendulum swung hard the other way.
