Exactly. You don't get to have it both ways. The same people who are applauding the "do as little as possible in order to win" approach, as popularised by a certain recent Olympic gold medal winner, are the very people who are complaining about falling public support for the sport. If you want the public to keeping forking out money, you have to give them 13 minutes of entertainment. Not just 53 seconds. The current trend is only serving to kill off the sport as a spectator event, and that will end up hurting sponsors.
