Cain is also entered in the Jr. 3,000m as well as the 1500m.

Nice, mature response by Mary to Alexa's race:

Cain talking about running the 3000m at juniors puzzles me because if that's the only event she runs at US juniors and she then runs it at world juniors, my expectation [after looking at the current world junior top list] is that she finishes 5th behind the 2 Kenyans and the 2 Ethiopians.
In the 800m a or the 1500m on the other hand I like her chances of going top 3.
Don't see the point of running world juniors just to finish 5th in the 3000m.
Wow you are right about this! There are two Kenyans and two Ethios way faster than Mary's 3K PR (8:41-8:53), two Ethios faster at 1500, and only one Cuban ahead in the 800. She says she doesn't like the 800 and wants a new 3K PR, so it's just a personal preference. If Alexa can scare sub-2:00 in a month she has decent shot at a medal in that.http://www.iaaf.org/records/toplists/middlelong/3000-metres/outdoor/women/junior/2014

Seriously, All I have to say is, "American Record!" All of those negative people out there have crushed the spirit of many athletes. It takes a truly strong and confident athlete to stay the course.
Centro already has two world medals and a close 4th at the Olympics, yet his mile pr is 3.6 seconds slower than Webb. Guess Webb was pretty darn good.
Factual=Historical and fact based. Now reread your post again....even slower this time.lsl wrote:

Cain has now been declared for the Srs. 1500m. Alexa not yet.
Please don't accuse Mary Cain herself of ducking anyone. She doesn't call any of her own shots. Salazar is not only her coach but the absolute dictator of all that she does, and it's not just because she's young -- he's this way with all of "his" runners.
Alberto is a piece of shit, and this was true will before his shameful antics at USATF Indoors. Someone I sometimes run with was supposed to interview Mary before NXN in 2012 for a sizable publication and even took the step of running the interview questions past Alberto first instead of going right to Mary and her dad, as she could have. He appeared to be cool with it and then and the last minute said "Mary doesn't need the extra pressure" and called it off. My friend had a nice time explaining that one to her editor, and was also thrilled with the few hundred bucks she lost...imagine if someone slighted Alberto or one of "his" charges in a similar way? And of course he's made it impossible to root for any of those NOP runners, through no fault of their own. I hope he crashes hard and then someone picks him up and punches him in the face with great vengeance and furrrrrrious anger.
I don't blame Mary Cain for any of this type stuff, but Cain's parents are the ones who decided on AlSal as her coach, so if your friend had a direct line to Cain's dad, I think she should have used it. I used to find it cringeful making two years ago when Mary would answer any half-way tough question by saying, "Ask my dad." I'm a big fan of her running, but the "surround" has been problematic for a long time.
Her dad's an a$$hole

They must have seen the obvious and considerable upside -- Alberto typically gets quick results with megatalented runners he inherits from everyday coaches who usually aren't equipped to handle that kind of awesome ability, and it's probably more the "we rule" attitude and the promise of access to top facilities than it is Alberto's brains that catalyze this. Hell, there are probably two dozen people reading this who could have gotten Mary Cain to 1:59 and 4:04 last year. But there's no need to pile on AlSal with hypotheticals when the reality is sketchy enough...can you imagine what a profile of Galen Rupp in a non-running sports publication like SI or even Outside would look like? It would all be rammed through Salazar's filter, which doubles as his shit-streaked and pulsating bunghole.
I'm greatly looking forward to any upcoming Alexa vs. Cain races. I feel like Alexa is damn close to where Cain was last year, and is potentially faster than her so far this season. Cain obviously has more experience in the big leagues, however, and if would imagine she's a better tactical racer because of it.

I find it just kind of amazing that this year alone 3 HS girls have fun faster mile/1500m times than ANY US HS girl had ever run before Cain. Hard to know if this is the beginning of a trend or more of a one-off, but it's certainly not a bad thing.
Come to think of it, absent Cain and Efraimson, you could make a case for Cranny having had one of the great HS seasons of all time. Or rather, she still did have one of the great HS seasons of all time - beats 2x defending champ at NXN, lowers 1500m PR to 4:10.95, wins bunch of state titles - but it doesn't stand out the way it might have.
Facts
Why are you so certain Alexa won't run 4:04 this year? She just ran 4:07 and there are 2-3 months left of the season. At this rate, Alexa might be better than Cain next year.
All speculation, get back to us.[/quote]
Why would she even have to run 4:04...
Cain has not run 4:04 this year and her 800 has been slower than last year... 4:05 could be enough to beat Cain...
I know, right? Reminds me of the Ritz/Hall/Webb year, but statistically even better. I do think HS male running got better as a whole since them, but maybe I'm wrong (people like Rupp, Lukas, or German Fernandez, among others I'm certainly forgetting).
Not sure why Mary and/or Alberto are thinking 3000m at this moment - she has all of next year (still an age-group Junior) to go after that, when presumably (hopefully) she will be even more fit than now. Much easier to get speed back (unless still injured), than get better endurance, in the next month.
This is her last shot at a Junior World medal - she gave up World Youth last year (a mistake IMO) for experience at World Seniors, although doing both would have been possible. She was 6th in 2012 in the 1500m I believe at WJr.
I think much of this stems from the decision to run fast indoors (as was the case with his group, except Farah). Mary should have been focused entirely on the outdoor season in an attempt to win at WJr. Now that seems to be off the table - choosing the least negative event for her (3000) without comparison to her better event (1500m). It was all well and good for Hasay and Rupp to run fast indoors as they didn't have any outdoor championships this year.
Emphraimson is in a somewhat better position than Mary as MC has already blazed the trail (so to speak). She has a World Youth medal (last year), and is eligible again in two years (2016) for World Juniors if she doesn't medal this year and if she doesn't make the Olympic team.
I don't doubt that AE can run close to 2 minutes and under 4.05 this year. Even if Mary doesn't run better than last year, but gets back to where she was last year - still a phenomenal level for an eighteen year old - that is a great season. I think it more important for her to go to WJr and deal with what happens (medal or not), than go to Europe on the DL circuit - she last years to do that, especially since she won't be doing the NCAA program.

Facts are Cain's pr's are much better and she crushed Alexa in their only head to head matchup. Chew on those facts before you post again!
