Track is a beautiful sport, but I'm beginning to suspect that it's the administration of the sport that holds it back from broader mainstream popularity. At every level, too much cloak-and-dagger, double-secret protests, with decisions made only after everyone leaves, and...zero evidence. It smells cooked. Overcooked.
The NFL has just as many and more terrible calls. Fans are left wondering what the heck the replay official misses and/or is watching under the replay booth. And I think we can all agree the NFL is a massively popular.
Track has many other problems. Most importantly, it's the fact that the average Joe cannot do it. Any average Joe can just wake up and play football, soccer, basketball, baseball, etc. You can't just wake up as an overweight diabetic and say, "I'm going to join the local pick up 3k steeplechase this afternoon."
I'll be waiting for a troll to say, "what's the NFL?" Oops, I just stole their thunder.
