Thanks. How does this worksheet come to be sitting on that web site under the heading "Malmo Files"?

Nice. If Galen can accelerate on the last coupla laps a 12:49 should be on the horizon.
Fastest WHITE man ever, here we go.

Cool. If the rabbit actually hits 3k in 7:44.xx and Rupp is right on the rabbit's heels, I like Rupp's chances of breaking the AR. [7:45 flat at 3k + 2:38 flat for slowish 4th k leaves him needing to run the last k under 2:30 to break 12:53, and I think he's capable of that. If Rupp himself keeps the pace moving in the 4th k, things could get really interesting. Seems unlikely but you never know.]

I think they run a good pace but it lags on the middle from about 2-3.5k. Winning time 12:54-12:57, Rupp runs 12:59-13:02.

Rupp has not run many European races in his career.
I'd like to see what he can do with a few 5000m races overseas in one season. The AR is his for the taking.
I see Rupp finishing in the top 3 here.
He can win it, actually.
Would not be shocked.
That was my first post of this thread.
He did get third.
The pace was not fast and that may have hurt his chances at place higher, but I doubt it.
I think he closed in 1:55 as the winner was 1:53 for those tracking that stat.
There is no way to say if he could have run 12:53 today if the pace was faster.
But he looked pretty good to me.

Because he asked me to put it there. Why the question?

HG has been running awful. I'll take Alamirew in 12:57ish.
If only I'd picked him on my fantasy team :(
PERFECT races don't happen. Only in ventolin's imagination. And even in close-to-perfect situations, Rupp will not sniff 7:20 or 12:40. But that will always be his excuse: 'Rupp didn't run the times I said he could because, x, y, z, didn't happen.'
And all of Ventolin's beliefs about which records are soft, what a slightly-too-fast first lap costs you, what a final fast lap means you had left, what getting pacing to x point costs you compared to pacing to y point, what this wind level slows you down vs another wind level, what this track is worth vs that track, what this guy *could* run for the 400/800, etc, etc, etc, etc, is *pure* conjecture.
I have no idea why you are taking #'s he pulls out of a$$ so seriously.

Idle curiosity. Didn't see an obvious connection between vent and that web site or why the worksheet was in some sense a "Malmo File" but now I get it.
i've just seen results & for anyone to take a 5k with a 7'57 ( 13'15 pace ) with elite 20m back, meaning more like 13'20 pace, as a serious race woud be a fool
that was joke of a race & i'll wait to see it on youtube to see what on earth happened when a guy like yenew who has gone 12'48 runs 13'01 win in an expected fast race
most all based on physics
clearly you have no clue what the word means or represents
anyone with a clue about the sport woud write that off as a dismal race for all involved sans yenew who got the money
"A guy who has gone 12:48," runs 13:01 more often than 12:50. That's what you don't seem to get. Few runners can be expected to have everything line up: best fitness, best conditions, best competition, best pacing, etc. So "potential" shouldn't be confused with probable results.
Rupp is a superstar. But breaking 12:50 would require a very rare alignment of the stars for him.
Rupp will be lucky to dip under 13:00 again. He is a 13:05-10 runner. Rupp is a 12:59 waiting to run 12:50.

Winning time of 12:58. Rupp 12:58.
A few people have run 12:52 there so it is a slow venue.
The women's 5000m world record was set at Oslo the last few times.
A number of men's 5000 and 10,000 m world records have been set there.
It's probably the most prolific track in history for setting distance records.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bislett_GamesGeb, Sigei, Ondiekei (first ever sub 27), Aouita , Moorcroft, Ron Clark all set 5 and 10 records there.
Plus Coe set an 800 record there.
Indgrid Kristiansen set a number of 50 and 10 records there.
Slow track?
ROTFL.
