A 10k/5k double is very capable from a guy like Cheserek.
I would lose all respect I had, not only for Cheserek but any athlete who competes for points instead of a win when they have the capability of winning races.
What if, and I'm just throwing this out there, he actually trained to excel at both the 10k and 5k so he could get points in both for his team? /mindblown
Look, I actually agree with Fro Marah in spite of the fact that I hate him.
I think I get what you are saying too. If Cheserek doesn't go out there and run like he has a pair of balls between his legs, I will be sincerely disappointed. We live in a country where children are given awards for just trying their hardest and then we're even talking about a guy not running his best just so that he has a slight chance at a couple more points? Are you kidding me?
When you toe that line, you are making an agreement. You are making the agreement that come hell or high water you will make the best effort that you can, no matter what that means. If you're a guy who can win that race, you go out there and you win that race. If you're someone who's been working towards a PR, you go out and you set that PR.
Only if he tries to win that first race, and then go all in and try to put in his best effort in the second race can he claim that "I'm the man, I'm the man, I'm the man, yes I am, yes I am, yes I am." And believe me, I want him to claim that. I am sick and tired of Colin Kaepernick being the man, the man, the man.
