You are being an idiot. It sounds like it was clearly stated that if you enter and don't have the mark, you aren't in and your entry fee will be kept.
Sounds clear to me. Why would you enter knowing that? Because in past years people got leeway? Well, it's not past years, it's this year, and the rules were told to you.
Pay better attention next time.
