I could probably last decades on Death Row.
I am in prison, I'm married.
or you could just, you know, not go to prison?

Prison happens, it's not always something one can avoid.

millions of people have done a pretty good job of it. not saying some aren't, but prison is full of "innocent" people supposedly caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time, to no fault of their own
I would run triples on the treadmill.
Jail is worse than prison. It just sucks.
I'd survive it, but I'd be miserable
I had an encounter with federal law that brought me into a federal inmate population of those who were awaiting to go before a federal judge. Some of them waited more than 5 years, others were in and out in two months. My issue was resolved before a judge and I was out in five months. These were the real rapstars though. Heavy gang affiliations, people deep in the drug game, a few attorneys and even one top tier university professor. I saw some people come back from court days with 25 year sentences.
I have one story for you. First, I was stationed in a 48-man pod, each inmate with his own cell. Secondly, people in this unit were well behaved. Think about it, they were awaiting trial.
In the cell two cells down from me was Nigerian who went by the name "Afulabi". Afulabi had been shipped away from an east coast federal holding unit because of undisclosed reasons. Afulabi was "in" for many things including drug smuggling, weapons sales, multiple homicides, racketeering, etc. Afulabi was not stupid and enjoyed his morning coffee, newspaper and a good game of monopoly. He was university educated but clearly corrupt. During these games he'd sometimes come out and say things that would strike you like about life growing up in the slums of Lagos or even more crazy things like "you can fit 2.2 lbs of cocaine in the orifices of women".
I will never forget the monopoly game I was playing when all of a sudden the sonic booms of a helicopter started getting louder and louder until it was literally on the rooftop of this facility. Afulabi is peering over his glasses at his monopoly money and properties while the other three of us discus how they must be picking up someone serious. Afulabi puts his stacks down and confidently says, "that's probably for me".
Five minutes later, we get locked down before lunch (this is typical) and over the PA system, "Afulabi, get your things. You're being transported." He cell door opens and just like that he was gone.
I met gang bangers way up in the gang hierarchies. I met killers who committed multiple homicides. I met a sketchy carnival owner, a pitbull dogfighter and a lot of really bad people. However, Afulabi was probably the baddest motherf*cker I've ever met. Not the guy who was bling blinging and lighting 100s on fire at the bar to be cool. I think Afulabi was a different kind of bad. Afulabi was corrupt.
There's probably a lot of dudes like Afulabi in the federal prison system. I don't know if all of them would have been as nice.
The question is could any badasss prison survive me, a 7th degree black belt. I would welcome the chance to crack some heads and bust some knees with virtual impunity. I've seen the sissies in prison - I would have them begging for mama in minutes. Blacks, mexicans, chinks, Russians, Kkk, bring them all on - I am equal opportunity Destroyer.
Having served 6 months I can say that prison is generally overrated and most stereotypes perpetuated in TV/movies are false
no, not every white guy who isn't a 6'3 220 Aryan Brotherhood member is going to get raped by Bubba
there are obviously a lot of bad guys in any given prison but keep your mouth shut and you will probably be fine, nobody wants to get tased and sent to solitary
You know why the call it the "slammer." Many Letsrunners would like it. Hardly any could prevent it since they're so skinny.
I wouldn't do well in prison. Not being able to do something (even if I didn't want to do it in the first place) is difficult for me.
One would need a strategy. Mine would include:
1. Set up a tax advisory service for the prison guards
2. Build a library
3. Help the warden launder money
Depending on how long you are in for, you might want to try and dig your way out
Nope, it would be hell.
At 6'5" 190lbs with a spec ops military background I'd like to think not too many ppl would come to me looking for a fight. But that may not be the case. My uncle is 6'4" 225 pounds and currently has 1 year left on a 15 year sentence. In his first letter to me years ago he told me his first day after he was transferred an equally big dude, but much younger, came up and threw my uncle to the ground and said "you're in my world now old man." I assume this was to show his "dominance" in that block. Since then my uncle has kept to himself and passed time by engrossing himself in the Bible. I still get a call from him a few times a year from an illegal prison cell phone....those guys smuggle anything you can think of in there.
I believe prison is completely avoidable. But if I found myself there I would do the same as my uncle, keep my head down and keep to myself. But if someone tries to punk you, better believe I wouldn't wait for the other guy to start swinging. That goes for everyday life as well, always throw the first punch.

True. 30 months in. Movies and TV exaggerate things. Violent but not in the way people think. Generally just keep your mouth shut and follow the "inside" rules as laid out by the population(s). A lot of guys do have to learn to change some body language or even habits they might engage in unconsciously, like smacking your lips a certain way, as that was considered an insult by some, disrespect, and it would start a fight. Might come off as funny and strange, but that's the way it was.
Most of the guys into punks (sex with ... guys) were in fact black and hispanic prisoners, by a large margin. Sure, some whites were into that, but a much smaller percentage. The "macho" cultures were in fact much more into it. Very impulsive peoples actually. And almost every single punk was willing (they were gay) and were of the same race as the guys using them. Unlike the movies and bullshit media stories designed to paint certain people as easy victims (usually whites) it's not likely you're going to get attacked by the BGF (Black Guerrilla Family) or MS13 and raped in the showers if you're white - or black or hispanic. You are likely to get in fights with blacks over petty things if you don't watch what you're doing. In my experience you do have to align yourself with "your own" but unlike the bunk in the movies, it didn't mean you couldn't speak with guys from different races.
Most, and I mean 99.8% of the guys in prison deserve to be there. Period.
