here's an interesting thought experiment. If MC were a boy, would our advice be different? Would I have advised alan webb not to run Pre, in exactly the same conditions?
Maybe - I'm probably trying to protect MC a little, while for a boy I probably wouldn't do the same. I'd say boys are supposed to tilt against windmills, lose, get back up again, etc.
have to think about this.
I was thinking along those lines too. Maybe it's a guy thing; but I know when I was 17, I'd have leapt at the chance to run in what might be the hottest field of the year. And sure, I'd have got my a$$ kicked. But I also know I learned more about racing when I competed against guys who were way above my level than I did when I was against a field of guys all at my level.
Now I never competed professionally, of course, so I didn't have to worry about sponsors and reps and marketing. But as a competitor, I loved going up against the best around.
When I was just turned 15, I swam against a bunch of 18 yr olds some of whom were state record holders. The gun went off, I got a great dive, hit the water, came up, and all I saw in the lane beside me was a trail of bubbles. LOL ..... but I became a better swimmer from that, and I worked a LOT harder in training afterward. Trust me, Aregawi isn't going to beat Cain by any more than I got beat that day. :)
