Does anyone know the nature of Baxter's injury? She ran 10:07 early in the season but then did not run Arcadia

Stress reaction, I think. Sounds like she's being smart and withdrawing so she can heal up before college XC instead of starting her college career with a stress fracture because she wanted to finish HS. Good for her.
No youre wrong go to ca.milesplit and search her account shes running again but slow 1030 i think

No you're wrong she quit after that race. Smart.
She won her qualifying meet easily but it was hard to know how hard she was going. If 10:30 is her current best effort then I don't blame her for pulling the plug and focusing on getting ready for Oregon as long as there isn't a team title on the line.
The state meet isn't for 3 weeks yet but she's not going to get to sub-10 in that time if she's at 10:30 right now. It's better for her to spend that 3 weeks as the start of her summer build up rather than race for 3 more weeks followed by a short break and then building up.

Not saying she needs to rush back, but 3 weeks for a H.S athlete is a long time. A H.S. kid can go from out of shape to in shape in 3 weeks and apparently she is already in decent shape. Your first race back from injury is always going to be kind of slow, she could probably come back a week later and run 10:15. Unless she is 100% healthy, I would not be running at all, that includes preparing college cross. I would take a couple weeks off and slowly build back up...she has pleanty of time if we are talking about starting her summer training.
If she is healthy, which I am going to assume she is since she is back competing; I would set my sights on running a fast time in June at the NB of Jr nationals. For her legacy, a fast track time is what's missing from her resume. I would try to get on the H.S. 2-mile or 5K top-10 list; perhaps even give the 10K a shot.
But high school isn't what matters; it's college that does, and beyond. She'd rather perform well in xc this fall than possibly run a decent time or more likely reinjure herself this spring. She doesn't absolutely need a fast time by the end of high school, so she won't be dumb. It's a good decision.
Notwithstanding the possibility of reinjury...
High school is absolutely matters becasue the future is not guaranteed. If an athlete never susceeds at the next level, H.S. will be their legacy.

Agree. Sometimes we are always so focused on the future that we never live for the day and enjoy the present. Many, if not most, runners will end up looking back more fondly on their high school running than their college running.

I saw another article in which Baxter said she felt discomfort during that first race back and decided to shut down her season rather than risk further injury. Doubt she's doing any kind of build up at this point.
