Results from Doha showed it was a NR. Is that even correct? If so, anyone else surprised no Ethiopian has run under 3:30?

I believe it. Though Geb ran 3:31(?) indoors.
I think one thing about the Ethiopians is that they are very, very talented but not as many of them run as the Kenyans
For whatever reason, the Ethiopians have always been far behind Kenyans in middle distance. Before Aman came along, their national record was only mid 1:43 in the 800.
Just looked it up, and yeah, it sure is a NR. No doubt going sub 3:30 is legit, but I just figured at some point they would have done it.
Ethiopians tend to be long, not middle, distance runners. Why are you surprised this is an nr. The wr is 3:26, just a bit over a second a lap lower.

No it was 1:45. No joke.

Like I said, I figured they would have had some guy along the way run faster. Maybe I'm wrong, but if LR had a poll, which is faster, Wheating's PR or the Ethiopian NR, most would say the latter.

I completely agree with this. I am a hardcore track fan, and I was surprised that Ethopia's NR was over 3:31. In other words, there were 5 Americans who have ran faster than the previous national record.

Good catch. I was way off. The record before Aman was 1:45.28. I just remembered he broke the record running 1:43.3 once. I didn't know he broke it several times before that.
3'30nr for them is a joke
geb wouda been in ~ 3'29 form outdoors in his 3'31i
aman looked in 1'42-flat shape in zurich '12 when he ran 1'42.5 on a cold, wet miserable night beating rudy easily !!!
so, they have guys with the great speed/pedigree below 1500
their nr shoud be currently around 3'27.5/3'28.0 in a perfect race
( i'd still make asbel quicker at around 3'26-high if monaco last year had been a "perfect" race )
what this means is that sometime in probably near future, one of the ethiopians will go 3'27.5/3'28.0 ( "perfect" race ) & in order to "equalise" their 800 & 5k records
aman actually looks a good candidate
( depending how ole he is & if he makes move sooner rather than later to 1500 )
he's such a runt that he looks like he coud run a race forever
bottom line :
expect a "perfect race" 3'27.5/3'28.0 from them sooner rather than later & don't be shocked 1 iota when it happens
their lack of a 3'27.5/3'28.0 nr is probably 1 of the biggest mysteries/oddities in the sport...
( to be honest, abdi bile looked in 3'27/3'28 shape when winning gold in '87 & he was a somalian, but looked pretty much an ethiopian to me but from wrong side of border )
ok
9 runners under 3:32,31 - has happened just once so far.
It seems there will be some great races over 800m and 1500m this season. Also on the womens side probably will come some great times. What a meet on early June.
Ethiopian all time lists

Notice the lack of 800 meter runners.
...early May!
On my site you can find progressions of Ethiopian distance records:
http://thegreatdistancerunners.de/ethiopia.html
I would appreciate any early addition very much!
can you tell me how bodo "impeded" Ryun from 400 - 300 out ?
did Ryun have to run any part out in lane 2 for that penultimate bend ?
an estimate for extra distance run on last lap ?
EThiopians will run sub 3:30 soon
The Ethiopian 30000 Steeplechase record is only .65 seconds faster than Evan Jager's American record.
Be quiet Vento - you do go on and on with your hypothetical histrionics. They did what they did (so did Ryun) - leave it at that. Your speculation and silly charts are really boring. Secondly, you are a bully who always has to have the last word. Please grow up - you ruin almost every thread on which you post.
Ethiopia has a marathon tradition - Bikila and Wolde. It is slowly trickling down to middle-distance, and still doesn't seem to be a big deal to many. The women are the same - how many top 800m for the women? The roads and the marathon are where the money is, and so are the athletes by and large. Genzebe Dibaba and Aregawi are recent stars for the 1500m, as their predecessors preferred the longer races. For the women (and the men really in the 1500m anyway) the top performances are stagnating anyway (sub-3.30 for men is still a rare peformance as is sub-4.00 for women) so there is room for "faster" ethiopians to shine here. Unless you are amongst the absolute best there is little point in pursuing these events financially otherwise.
Is it surprising that these fast middle-distance times don't exist? Only for those who think they know the history of the sport, but really do not know. It is that simple.
