so, the real question is who will Saladbar get to proctor the Ducks distance crew works now that Ritx is leaving?

Sad to see Ritz retire. Wish him well in his new career.
so basically, this is "Ritz buys a new house"
Super hot news, indeed.
What life beyond running? His chances of getting a coaching job are better as a volunteer with Oregon or NOP than GV. Is that a college or HS?
She wanted to go home and after he was hurt yet again she got her way. They don't have the $ for her to fly home and visit? Probably has been doing that all along but now oldest is in school so they can't stay as long. If he is coaching how will he get to the camps? Nike can't keep him glued together when he's there to work on every day. The end.
You realize this is a VOLUNTEER coaching job? He is able to come and go as he pleases. GVSU will use his name for recruiting and he will use GVSU for a resume builder. Nothing more, nothing less.
is this really news? wrote:

Yes, that's basically what it is. They really buried the lede there! The whole leaving his team and training group behind him is all just fluff.

He already has a pending sale (to a contingent buyer, meaning they need to sell their house first) on his Portland area home. Interesting that the private remarks in the listing say "Please note the "altitude system" will be removed at closing."
Is real estate really so slow in Portland that someone will sell to a buyer who can't lock in immediately?
Where I am that offer wouldn't even be considered.

No, I have not seen many contingent offers accepted. Not sure why they would take this one a couple of days after listing, but maybe the buyer's house is expected to sell quickly or has a deal partially in the works but not actually in contract yet.
Sounds like his current injury is pretty bad. Said on Runnerspace that he hopes to be racing on the roads later this summer. Didn't look too upbeat about his own running. Gotta be tough to come back from all of those injuries.

Um, spin it how you want, but he will NOT be "with" the training group in any imagination of the word.
Those minimizing the importance of this move potesteth too much, methinks.

Fair enough. I suppose he may be acquainted with the buyer or some other special circumstance.
Thanks for confirming that Portland is still hot!
So he hopes to train well through a Michigan winter? brrrrrr!

He'd actually previously said that at some point he'd go back to Michigan. Maybe being injured moved that up. But yeah, he's still with Salazar and the Oregon Project.
No, he's not:

Ritz move back to MI = career over. He will no longer have access to soft trails, alter G treadmills, underwater treadmills, hydro iclandic cyborg recovery contraptions, etc. He gets hurt just sneezing. Great career but better days are behind him.
Except GVSU has an alter-G, and Grand Rapids/Western Michigan is full of soft trails. But ok.
Less weight lifting and plyos will be good for Ritz. He has to be bummed he got injured lifting weights.

It's called starting a new stage in life. He's done being a true competitive runner.
Yes, we have nice trails around here, but I doubt its we have anything near the quantity and quantity of what he has in Portland.
Personally, I'm transferring to GVSU this fall, and I'm somewhat concerned about finding trails. I know of one state park a few miles from campus, but I haven't heard of much else. I do have ~50 miles worth of trails within ~15 driving minutes of my front door, but that's between around 8 systems. Not exactly ideal for someone looking for variety for their weekly miles.
