Listen to Hardloper. He has a sub 18 5k PR.

Wow Hardloper is really off on this thread. Nobody expects Hall to PR, the point is that he does "tempo" most of these shorter races. Anybody had been following the sport knows that.

No, people here are just taking everything to the extreme. Did I say his races are all good? No, most were so-so, many were pretty bad, but I was replying to the statement that he apparently hasn't "raced" under the marathon AT ALL since 2006.
I'll be pacing the first 3% of all these races, yucking it up with the elites because Altra shoes are really, really great shoes but mainly I am a self-promoting whore who thrives on all the attention.

What do Skecher guy and Hoka guy have in common? They can both outrun Altra guy even at the start.

Does it really matter what the competition is? They guy runs his own race and often does it with little care for where anyone else is. Sure, he won't have competition but I'm just happy to see him jumping down in distance.
I'll risk that you are joking, and reply as if you're being serious.
Maybe it doesn't matter to him.
That's why I hope some real competition shows up. He clearly is NOT looking for ANY competition in this race at the Flying Pig. I think people that enter races deserve some competition. Especially those who repeatedly talk big.
To answer your question - It seems weird to me to enter a 10k race where you are somewhere between 4 and 8 minutes faster than the previous winners for the last 5+ years, and say something to the effect of "I am ready to deliver!".
Would you not have any reaction if I, being a 33:00 10k guy, decided to enter a 10k race that was always won in around 41:00 and said to you: "I am ready to deliver in this 10k!" You wouldn't raise an eyebrow to that? I would. And most people I know would. I think I might even get my own LetsRun thread.
He'll have good comp at the Bolder Boulder though.

I was considering running it and didn't know if I should be happy or upset he's entered. My PR is low 33; I ran Boston so was just hoping to have some fun going ftw IF my legs felt okay with strides by Friday. Might still do it just so I can (hopefully) say I came in second to an Olympian...
Looks like you can try to beat him after all:
"I'll be commentating my first race at the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinatti (and jogging the 10k the day before). Hope to see you there"

Interesting. So, he started running at all January 1 and began running 5 minutes per day.
I run a 10K almost every day at lunch. Ryan Hall is a big washed up pvssy.
Hm. Ready to deliver? I wonder, does Mr. Hall receive any compensation just for agreeing to run these races? Hm?
Could it be, that this same Mr. Hall is just going where the money is without running a marathon? Hm?
Could it possibly be that Mr. Hall is making as much cashola as he possibly can? Hm. I wonder.

What charity do YOU give your earnings to?
The Flying Pig 10 is NOT an elite race. It is more of an after thought to give folks who don't think they can finish a full or even half marathon an event to say the ran "The Pig" in their water cooler discussions next week

Correction for you. There will be good competition/competitors at Bolder Boulder. Hall will run 30:45 +/- 20 sec. at BB.

You should run it. This place would blow up if a LRer beat Hall. He might get nervous and choke when he sees you on his tail.
Why does he feel so confident to state that he is "ready to deliver", despite his Boston result?
Did god tell him that?
That guy hasn't shown anything in the last two years that would indicate that he is "ready to deliver" anything but mediocre results.
That interview dispels that he was ready to win at Boston. There's a lot of Hall haters. He still ran a 2:04 and sub 60.
My question is whether he has peaked/broken down.
DO IT

I'd go with answer 4) The OP took the "ready to deliver" comment which was directed at Boston and used it out of context.
He's doing these events because his sponsors want him to do these events. He'll finish first at the Pig because there's no competition anywhere near his level. He'd be doing well to crack the top 10 at Boulder because there is and there is competition that is more focused on this particular race. In any case, it's good to see him racing again, whatever the level. It'd be fun to see him turn road whore ala Tegenkamp, even if he never again runs at his previous level.
