After weights, I walk for 10 minutes on the treadmill, backwards at 1.8 mph, up a 6 degree incline. It feels good for the knees. Heading there in about 20 minutes. Before that I'll try to beat Matt London's dumbbell calf raise record...film at 11.

"I'm watching someone walk no faster than 2 mph on a treadmill right now."
Old thread, but imagine making this statement and thinking it makes the other guy look like a loser.
No, not this. I get it that it’s easy to justify and defend anything that a person on letsrun complains about, because of the self hating runner meme that letsrun seems hell bent on perpetuating, but it is actually a bigger waste of time to walk 2mph than it is to complain about it or make fun of it. Shave off the lard.
On a related note, there's a Coffee shop not far from where I live where a lot of people sit and work on their laptops. I don't go there a lot but the last couple of times I went by there was a lady sitting in there working at her laptop with a portable bicycle pedal thing, just pedalling away. I do find it a bit odd. Can you really get any work done while pedaling a machine? It seems to me she is kind of half-ass doing everything. She isn't really getting much of a workout, and she doesn't look like she's getting much work done either. I could not imagine anyone could be happy doing that.
I see people all the time slowly moving w/ no resistance and lazy form on stationary bikes, and ellipticals at the gym. It's almost like they're being forced to be there. Why do so many people do cardio incorrectly? It's so easy and painless. Just pop on the mp4 and go on a 8 mile easy run at 7:00 pace.
Gotta chime in on this 7 year old post. Jesus christ if that was my only way to get in shape for a grand canyon rim-to-rim, I'd just go ahead and kill myself so I could hike it in heaven.
Ever heard of walking desks? Some people set up their office with a treadmill so they are working at their desks while walking on a treadmill. Even set to 1 mph, you get 8 miles in during a work day - pretty good.
I think so many people cannot get past the idea of exercise as punishment. They wear heavy, non-breathable clothes and they drag their ass around like they're sisyphus doomed to do this forever. Sometimes on a run I'll pass a slow cyclist and they look like they are about to tip over and just not get up. So many people just go through the motions and think that's all their exercise could ever be. They plug into distractions to avoid thinking about their slog - headphones, tv, A PHONE IN THEIR HAND ON SPEAKERPHONE. Heaven forbid they just do one thing and devote their attention to it.
I see people all the time in various aspects of life who will put other people down that are not as skilled as they are. Is not just in athletics. People are constantly picking on people of lower intelligence who are less attractive, who are not as athletic and everything else. I'm not saying I am the best person in the world but I strive everyday to have compassion for other people. I understand that there are people out there who struggle in areas that I flourish but on the flip side there are people out there who are far as superior to me and many areas. Be grateful for your athletic ability but do not put other people down for what you were given as a gift. There's definitely someone out there who's more athletic than you and you would feel like s*** if they put you down.
To each his/her own. Before Covid there was this guy at my gym who did the elliptical at 35 or so strides per minute. No sweat. I guess he could tell his doctor he regularly exercised.
Gotta start somewhere, and if he's not starting, then that's either what he wants to do or where he is. Doing ANY exercise is better than nothing. For all you know, he has a heart condition or some other thing so that his doctor has restricted him.
In any event, why do you care how someone else exercises?
I have left side weakness but you can’t really tell. I can only do 1.5. I finally today walked at 2.0. It’s such an improvement. my PHysical therapist would be thrilled. I don’t want to be judged so I don’t go to the gym. I only go outside for Dr. Appointments. people tend to judge too much. I don’t want them reminding me of my disability. I want to be normal again.
This is still better than one time at my old condo with one treadmill a woman "ran" at 1mph for an hour and while I waited my turn at an hour her husband jumps on and does the same thing.
That was probably the last time I ever tried to run in there.
Imagine what you could of been, had you gotten that extra treadmil run in. It bogles the mind.
