You can't pour 12 oz of beer out of a can as fast as he was emptying those. And who the hell does a beer mile by himself? How lame.

WOWZA
Getting the brews down that quickly is what is impressive. DI, DII, DIII Whatever! @#$% Congrats on sub 5:00!
You absolutely can drink that fast. Are you serious?
If you tilt a can directly upside down, it will come out slowly. If you tilt it at about 45 degrees and increase the angle as you drink it, it will just pour out with no air pockets slowing it down.
I seem to remember a guy built like a tank on the Canadian XC team for World's around 2000. He looked like a bodybuilder amongst a 7th grade P.E. class on the course. Believe it's him.
never happened.
I just tested pouring as fast as possible. Took about 5 seconds to empty a can filled with water.
He squeezes the can which is totally legal.
This is as legit as can be.
I have no idea who this guy is but I like the cut of his jib. Impressive performance.
This is commendable. Well done, sir! I say nay to the naysayers.

That was James. When he hits the weight room he gets strong and bulks up. He also got his 5k down to about 14:06 when he was running with the Farm Team while getting his PhD in electrical engineering at Stanford. Impressive guy on all fronts. Congratulations to him on this significant career achievement!
Brah, I don't understand how this guy can be so RIPPED AND SHREDDED and run so good without spending time every day in a box.
Outstanding achievement. Hopefully he will do for the sport what Roger Bannister did, and enable others to seek to achieve what was once perceived as impossible.
We commend you James for blazing this trail. Eager to see who will follow.
ummmm what? wrote:And who the hell does a beer mile by himself? How lame.
Yep. I don't see how this can count unless there are other competitors.
When you measure running ability, upper body strength, engineering chops and drinking ability, he is perhaps the manliest athlete out there. The only way to improve would be to fornicate his GF on the roof of a nearby building and base jump to the start line.

Maybe his wife taught him how to suck it out of the can so that the beer would cumm out faster.
Listen really closely to the sound of the cans being opened. They sound empty. No fizz... just a hollow sound.
Pump up the volume on the 2nd beer (4:37)....when he shakes it over his head, sounds like some suds are still in the can..

The "ratification" and the "official" rules of these things is just stupid.
I ran a beer mile with light beer and I'm proud of it. It's not the alcohol content that's difficult - you don't get drunk from the race.
You show up drunk. That's the secret.
The secret is there is no secret.
Excellent point. I also note we don't see the time clock consistently in the frame - it is a simple matter to start a second identical iphone 15 seconds later and switch it up for the finish time.
His wife should not be the only witness - clear violation of IAAF record ratification policies.
Also, no drug testing present.
Lot of red flags.
Very impressive performance. My guess is that most of the letsrunner crowd couldn't run 4 sub-70 quarters with only 7-10 seconds of rest. Now add the beer factor, and that makes it even more impressive.
In order to shut up the doubters, it would have been more verifiable if there were more witnesses other than his wife. If I was that good, and able to drink beer that fast, I would have invited everybody and their brother to come watch. After the run we would either celebrate or commiserate, depending on the outcome.
I don't know about the rules... But it's a bit sad he ran all by himself with just his wife filming. You would think you would want some friends there either running with you or supporting you. Who would do a solo beer mile? Doesn't seem like much fun
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
