What percent of medalists at the Olympic/WC level for 800m on up belong to training groups vs. just having a coach?

stotan is not for the weak. some of the members of the group who did not make it, simply could not handle the training at this level! just because the group contained a 2:10 marathoner and a 13:15 5k runner does not mean they can handle the commitment necessary to be successful. this program was started to bring in americans AND East Africans to prepare them to compete on the world stage. if they do not have the work ethic, they will not survive. good for Stotan for cleaning out athletes who are not worthy. why should John Aris waste his time on athletes who can't hack it? do you know who Bill/John are?

Looking at their site I see no current runners who can run

sub 4, sub 14, sub 29, sub 65, or sub 2:20. In fact in their history only one person, Fred Joslyn, has achieved any of those times with Stotan Racing...So no, they aren't a group designed for athletes of that caliber. Maybe they should pick up some of the FM kids, considering they have a faster group currently.

If they've coached runners to the level indicated on their records list, then yes, it is a group for such runners. Who gives a SH$% if they have NO runners who can hit those marks currently. If someone is committed to improving, has some support, then all it takes is the coach, and the athlete. Everyone looks for large rosters to pull them along. Some runners seem to do better with the one on one atmosphere. Large classes are for college. If you want to improve, you should welcome the individual attention provided by a coach, whenever possible.

C Fred! Thats the guy who whined about getting screwed by the Hansons, right? Then, he ran 2:24. Im amazed Stotan coaches even got him to a 2:18, OT Qualifier. Guys got no ability. Shows that good coaching can bring even the mediocre to a sub elite level. Hasnt been with Stotan in over a year, now. Just ran 2:29 at Boston. Atta boy freddie

/points are still irrelevant, on the topic of having a small roster. They've always had one or two fairly solid runners sisnce they started up, classic spilled milk syndrome. Somebody didnt like getting cut. Any press is good press. I bet these guys are getting looks from recruits on this thread alone.

Well this turned into a Stotan hate thread. They're certainly not a "major training group" so I doubt that's the one that's shutting down. Obviously it's not NOP or Bowerman or Beasts. Dunno about ZAP, Hansons seems unlikely. I would have heard something about USA-MN by now if it was them, I'd think. So who's left?

Perhaps ADP, I think Simmons who started the group has already moved on.

Completely false. Salazar is MOVING to Boston and will still be with Nike. I imagine some of his krew will leave the team but most will move to Boston.

I will tell you that Nike does not want to add more funding to this group (currently), the reason why there are many individuals on the team without an actual Nike sponsorship, even though some insiders have been pushing for more. Which makes for good drama.

How many of these groups are around longer than 10 years? They all have an expiration date. Coaches get burnt out. Athletes expect more and more. Sponsors get tired of throwing money away.

Everyone is excited about a NEW group, but you are only New for a couple years. I'm tired of NOP and Hansons and Zap and Team Minnesota. It all just seems like more of the same.
