This is an incredibly sad day in the history of US marathon racing.
Except for Ritz, Tegenkamp, and Vail, this is the best collection of US marathoners our country has to offer. One is running but as a 2:09 guy, the expectations were low to begin with. Boit is a good runner, and this race will be a good lesson in marathoning, which he needs. The rest are running to their potential: off the back of the world's elite.
Meb is actually wearing Heelys today and is literally rolling on the downhills.
I wonder if Nike still regrets dropping Meb because he was 'washed up'.
It's not because Shalane led the race that she blew it, it's just that she didn't have it. The other women ran about 1 second slower than she the whole way and now they're speeding up. They have it and she didn't and it's not simply the fact that she led and they "tucked in."
I admire her for going for it, by the way.
Set up for Meb?! Wasn't is Meb who couldn't even get an invite a couple of years ago, allegedly because his brother was asking for too much appearance money?

Field hardly sucks with Desisa, Kimetto, Geneti....and the fact that Meb has a big lead in this field is impressive as hell.
Flanagan shit the bed
MEBS STILL LEADING. Weldon keeps calling me saying meb can do it. I thought he needed 2 plus minutes at 30k.
Mile 14 - 4:48 (68:37)
Mile 15- 4:53 (1:13:30)
Mile 16 - 4:37 (1:18:07)
Milie 17- 4:59 (1:23:06)
Mile 18- 4:58 (1:28:04)
Mile 19 - 4:47 (1:32:51)
Mile 20 - 5:01 (1:37:52)
Interesting that Boit still comfortably in 2nd place. I wonder if the chase pack can see Boit and assume they aren't far back. I bet they don't know how far up Meb is.
This is an amazing field. Desisa and Kimetto are racing each other. No one cares about Meb.

I'm starting to think Meb will hang on for the win. They said he was 1:20 up on the field not to long ago, and he hardly ever seems to blow up in races...he's always finishing strong, even when fighting through minor injuries/vomiting/bad blisters etc

It is not sad because the US men's field is weak (It is NOT weak - it is a great US men's 'team' out there).
It is a sad day because the race has so obviously, embarrassingly FIXED. We are now watching something with all the legitimacy of professional "wrestling".
