Rojo, what was Meb's last split, he looks like he is flying.

Announcers said around 14:55 for the last 5k, 4:39 for the last downhill mile
well, shalane may hold on for top 10 if she doesn't totally fall apart...I feel like she should not have led like that. every year, someone takes out the first miles fast and always dies....why would she not learn from the past
Shalene looks to be 10 yards back from the pack
Even if he is on 2:08 pace, it doesn't really change the buffer he needs, only by about 6-7 seconds over each 5k.

Lets assume Meb will run 2:09 flat. 4:55 pace.
If the leaders wait to attack only the last 5k, and can do so in 14:15, he needs a 65 second advantage. 50 seconds if they muster a 14:30.
If they attack from 10k, out, Meb will need about 1:45, assuming the leaders bang out a 29:00.
Good thinking... just watch closely for Desisa and Kimetto. They better break away soon.
meb: 2:10
Winning time: 2:07
Shalane's legit
I had dinner with Larry Rawson a couple of years ago. He is a neat guy and very very knowledgeable.
I'm all for Meb but unfortunately it's all over now, he's visibly straining and will be cooked before mile 22. He's a warrior and will finish, though.
Meb's doing it boston bill style.
Not sure what feed you all are watching but Shalane just got dropped going up the hills:

Looks like her day is over unless its just temporary.

Even if he runs 2:08 (which I don't think he will), it only knocks 6-7 seconds off his necessary advantage for each 5k.
Shalane's out
wait...

4:39 for Meb for that downhill mile is not crazy fast. It's a very fast mile. I'm surprised others aren't with Meb. Don't get me wrong, he's running a great race, but he's not on CR pace (even if you disregard 2011).
Looks like Meb is starting to look down at the ground a lot. Not a good sign.
I want to see a chart of Flanagan's pace per mile when this is all over. Will look like an elevation profile of Everest
I sure know my running :) You can just tell by the positioning of the group, not only by looking at her form, anyway still gutsy from Shalane leading so far in the race..
